4. I agree it could make a great montage in a longer piece
Maybe about all the rights we are losing under Bush.

Anyway, thanks for the comments.

5. I think you've got a great start.
The video played well...you've got good, strong
graphics. The music is OK; but I wonder if something
more ominous - or perhaps more martial (fascist?) might
be more intense.

The thing is, I like your idea - it's just that it
deserves to be developed into a longer piece.

For example - the quote "War is Peace" followed
by something that has * declaring mission accomplished,
which dissolves into a bloody scene in Iraq.

Ignorance is Strength - dissolve * saying he supports
education into a broken down school

Love is Hate - again, maybe dissolve * saying whatever
into something that really grabs people by the throat.

And how about "Miniplenty reports the chocolate ration
has been increased" followed by images of intense
poverty?

Just a thought or two.

7. the chocolate ration! now there's an idea
Developing the three quotes into separate montages is a great way to expand this. Thanks for the suggestions.

6. Nice. (a slide suggestion)

"one of those completely unquestioning, devoted drudges on whom, more even than on the Thought Police, the stability of the Party depended." Part 1, Chapter 2, pg. 23

And for anyone else interested, a great website for 1984 quotes. If you're like me, you've been too depressed or too afraid to read the book in the last six years or so:

http://www.bookrags.com/notes/1984/QUO.htm

Quote 38: "the consciousness of being at war, and therefore in danger, makes the handing-over of all power to a small caste seem the natural, unavoidable condition of survival." Part 2, Chapter 9, pg. 192

Quote 39: "a mixture of psychologist and inquisitor, studying with extraordinary minuteness the meaning of facial expressions, gestures and tones of voice, and testing the truth-producing effects of drugs, shock therapy, hypnosis, and physical torture." Part 2, Chapter 9, pg. 194

Quote 42: "the essential act of the Party is to use conscious deception while retaining the firmness of purpose that goes with complete honesty." Part 2, Chapter 9, pg. 215

8. The moran in my flash video?
Orwell was right. The "devoted drudge" is more dangerous than the Thought Police!

I'm envisioning a series of Orwellian ads. So far I have two. Here's the first one I did.

9. I like the second one better (more)
I like the second one better. The images you chose were excellent, and while I love Japanese drums (I forget the real name for them), they're not so subtle. The animation you posted in the OP was a good mix between words, music, and image.

Perhaps Captain Moran wouldn't be so hot, at least not by himself. I'm sure you're better at googling pictures of rednecks (my skills were surpassed someime in the mid 80s, when I stil thought BASIC was a pretty neat idea :)), but perhaps a more subtle -- and more honest image of the'average' right winger might fit better, especially when in cinjucntion with your other slides?

And if I hadn't made it clear yet: good work.

10. The moran deserves to be immortalized in a flash video
maybe with a bunch of crashtest dummies...

He really is a gem.
