PLUS CA CHANGE DEPT.
I found an old Mad Magazine the other day. Not that old, I suppose, but it was from 1982, when I was 11. Under the heading "Right Wing Nuts Dept.", they had "The Model Majority Manual," a Colbert-ishly ironic handbook for aspiring uber-conservative pundits and spokespeople. It's far too long a piece to go into much detail, but it hits the nail on the head so thoroughly, so persuasively and with so much scorn that I've got to believe it went some way towards helping form my politics today.

Mad Magazine forming your politics? you say. How gauche! But boy oh boy, were they on the nose with it. It's as though Coulter, Limphaugh and all the rest of those clowns read it too, but, like the anvils they are, took it seriously.

Anyone else remember "The Model Majority Reader"?
