Christian group giving away tix to see An Inconvenient Truth
Give credit where credit is due...I'm not a chistian but I'll give 'em props for attempting to be engaged, despite the opposition of many of their fundie friends.

"Thank you for your interest in seeing the new film about global warming featuring former Vice President Al Gore called An Inconvenient Truth.

Your free tickets are just a few steps away. Check the three boxes on this link and provide us with your name and contact information. You will then be emailed a Promotional Code good for TWO FREE TICKETS (while supplies last) from the online movie ticket site, Fandango. You will also get easy step-by-step instructions for redeeming the code.

Christianity Today editor David Neff, in his review of the film says An Inconvenient Truth "engages its audience with its moral seriousness and its avuncular and folksy style <...> He wants action now-and he's right about that." View the article to see Neff's complete review, including information about what other prominent evangelical leaders are saying about global warming.

Whatever your current opinions of global warming or Al Gore, here's an opportunity to see for yourself what others are talking about and give us your views."

4. I'm not a Christian either, but I always appreciate it when they
walk the walk, instead of just talking the talk.

Good on them.

6. Thanks!
But it seems there is no online ticketing available - and therefore no free tickets - here in my little area of red state fundie hell. There is only one theater showing the film in Tulsa - and many of the surrounding areas are not showing the film at all. Still, it is nice to see the effort to get Christians to view this film.

7. glad to hear this
You know, a lot of northeastern christians arent psychos - some indeed still are, but overall we are pretty reasonable. Great move - this is exactly how dems can win some of the NE christians - who cares about gay marriage and stuff, work on the morality of the future for our children.

8. You have to declare yourself Christian...
It says "check the boxes if you agree" but if you don't check that you are Christian, no tickets for you!

11. Good for them!
I have always held (well hoped at any rate) that with the Christians, as with other religious/spiritual groups, the majority (or at least 50%) consists of truly well-meaning and sincere people.
But hey only the psychos make good copy.

I mean does anyone honestly think Robertson or Coulter are real Christians?

12. Very cool, but...
...there is no way in hell  that I'm giving a religious organization of any stripe my full street address. No snail-mail spam for me, thank-you-very-much.

I'll pay for my own tix - especially since the Gore's are donating their movie profits to environmental causes.

13. I sent it to Christian family/friends. I have some real wacko ones who
believe the earth is only 2400 or so years old so they won't go for it, but it might make a bit of a dent in the armor to have it reinforced that not all Christians belive the earth is that young and that stewardship of the earth is serious business.

I believe that Al Gore is changing the debate and we can split the Fundamentalist base if Dems follow up.

edit to add: We need some "Stewards of the Earth" bumper stickers! Hey, Cafe Press!

15. The newspaper of the SBC (Southern Baptist)
actually had an editorial in the latest edition talking about how important a movie it was, encouraging peope to see it, etc.

I was dumbfounded.

16. BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!!!!
Edited on Fri Jul-07-06 06:10 PM by Diane R
After discovering that my bank card had been being scammed each month for ten dollars from WLI*RESERVATIONREWARDS , I did some research. The FANDANGO site is one of the leading sources of this scam. By clicking any of the 'free' offers (usually ten dollars towards your next purchase), the WLI*RESERVATIONREWARDS scam downloads your personal date...including bank account number...and begins to withdraw $10 each month. Most people don't even notice, and it can often go on as long as 2 years.

Here is a site that explains all of this http://adam.rosi-kessel.org/weblog/the_man/webloyalty_aka_wli_reservations_is_a_scam.html . While this scam is on many sites (including some of the biggest names), FANDANGO seems to be the most problematic.

Perhaps, in this case, the lure will be free tickets to Inconvenient Truth. But my guess is that it will still make you vulnerable to the WLI* scams....which go by various names. Check your bank statement carefully if you applied for anything free from this site...it takes your person info without your knowledge.

17. Thanks for the heads up, I wouldn't encourage DUers to get tickets here
Even if there were no problems with Fandango, I would only encourage you to go this route if you can not afford to buy your own ticket. If you are financially strapped then go for it, just be careful about the Fandango thing. If not however DUers, this is a charitable donation let the people who really are financially strapped take advantage of it rather than just trying to get free tickets.

21. *thunk*
Wow. My husband subscribes to that magazine. Occasionally they do something decent -- in the most recent issue they also did a HUGE article about the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which I actually have plans to read.

Good! It's about time the true Christian face is seen -- the ones who follow the teachings of Jesus, not James Dobson.

not like the modern day Pharisees, the "Religious Right" and the Bushies who are committed to destruction, hypocrisy, death, greed, self-righteosness...and more.
