So I got a call from the DNC today
raising money for House candidates. I told them I'd give to individual candidates, but until the Democrats in Congress grow spines, I will not contribute to the party. The person on the other end of the phone sighed and said she'd been hearing that a lot. I told her I hoped she'd pass it on.

1. bad move IMO
Edited on Mon Jan-16-06 08:29 PM by LSK
Do you actually know what the DNC is doing with that money? Do you know about building the parties up in all 50 states? Do you know about building up parties from the ground level?

I wish you would change your attitude. You are taking money from Howard Dean.

Wait until you see Howard Dean making a speech about corruption on Wednesday on the steps of Gov Tafts capital in Ohio.

Im very dissappointed in what you did.

8. Indeed. Improve the party by weakening it.
There's something mighty backwards about that logic.

Dean is trying to grow the party big and strong. How is he supposed to do that if people are withholding donations?

Not to mention insuring that they will have to look away from small donors if they keep it up.

And I always wonder what "growing a spine" means, quantitatively. Where is the line? I get the feeling everyone has their own. I just wonder what that's supposed to look like.

3. good for you, maybe they will understand $$$$$$
Edited on Mon Jan-16-06 08:31 PM by msongs
we never give money except directly to candidates because our county dems group spends it
wastefully. no doubt some on DU will attack this policy, but I only want to put the stuff
where it will get direct use.

I have met and talked with howard dean twice. I do not believe I am hurting him or the DNC in
any way.

7. I was told the money was specifically for House races
I can't afford to give that much and I don't want to few bucks I do have to donate to go to any DINOs. I plan to give money to Coleen Rowley's campaign.

10. But the strongest Dems we have are in the House
Because they can be, as they are so safe in their seats.

The Senate is the more sedate of the two.

So what does a spine look like. What will it take, exactly.

12. Right on; good for you.
How else are the congressional Democrats going to understand that by rolling over for the Republicans every time, they are not doing a good job of representing us? The DNC has to understand this and pass the word to the people who want our money. No guts = no bucks.

Here is the page to keep it separate in your mind.

17. I hate this stuff. If you want power it will cost you.
I am sorry, but this kind of thing is just ceding the power to the GOP and the corporate wing of the party.

This is why Dean had to go hire a big money man, because the people in the party would rather gripe and bitch than pay rebuild the party another way. The powers that be were not happy with the fundraising, so he is having to go after big donors.

Why have only 30,000 signed up for monthly donations? Because they blame Dean for the other Democrats who are DLC inclined anyway.

You are just letting them win.

Dean had a dream even during the campaign that one million people could donate 20 dollars a month, which would give a huge amount monthly and yearly. But he can't reach that dream because Democrats would rather bitch than support the one who IS speaking out.

I give up on this. I hope the mods will count the number of posts today about leaving the party or not donating. I hope they do. They will be stunned. It is just as bad at Kos and Booman and other places.
