GM moves on Renault-Nissan plan (BBC)
Last Updated: Thursday, 6 July 2006, 06:16 GMT 07:16 UK

Troubled US car giant General Motors has said it plans to study a possible three-way alliance with rivals Renault and Nissan.

Chief financial officer Fritz Henderson will head a special group analysing the proposal, the Detroit-based firm said.

The news comes as GM directors prepare to discuss the alliance on Friday.

Separate reports have suggested that GM boss Rick Wagoner will meet Renault and Nissan chief executive Carlos Ghosn for talks later this month.

Mr Wagoner has come under pressure from key GM shareholder Kirk Kerkorian to enter into discussions with France's Renault and Japan's Nissan, aimed at forging an alliance.
