He is pushing a story that Hugo Chavez and Kim Jong Il may team up, saying that Chavez is set to visit North Korea in the near future.

3. I hope so, but
it almost seemed like an attempt to equate the two, as if they are buddies. I hope I misinterpreted that.

7. Somehow...
I doubt that. Chavez is trying to get a multi-national Anti American coalition together, no matter how distasteful the country (Iran, N. Korea) may be. DU'ers who think that Chavez is only Anti-Bush are kidding themselves. This guy is anti-american through and through. When a Dem is elected in '08, his rhetoric will continue on unabated.

15. It's my opinion
I'm entitled to it. BTW, I can't wait for the Kim Jong Il/Hugo Chavez photo op. Will that change your mind about this guy or will you keep the blinders on? I'm not saying Chavez is evil or anything like that, he just has a LOT of red flags around him that should make us cautious before labeling him the next great hero of the left.

I cracked up when I read Ben Widdicombe's column the other day and he said "Happy Pride, Anderson. You too, Shep."

Thank you Anderson, for being so blatant that all my fellow queers that want to bang him will finally stop arguing with me.

5. US concerned about potential Chávez visit to North Korea
http://english.eluniversal.com/2006/06/26/en_pol_art_26A732829.shtml

The United States expressed Monday concern about the announcement of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez on his visit to North Korea to execute agreements that could involve transfer of military technology.

"I am not sure about what he is expecting from the North Koreans," US Department of State Spokesman Sean McCormack replied about the visit to Pyongyang disclosed by the Venezuelan ruler.

"Certainly, if this involves transfer of military technology, given the background of North Korea, it would be a matter of concern," he added.

At the end of a two-day official visit to Panama last Friday, Chávez said that he would head for the isolated country headed by Communist leader Kim Jong-Il to enter into bilateral agreements on technology and scientific matters. However, he did not provide further details, AFP quoted.

Venezuelan Leader to Visit Kim Jong-il

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a fierce critic of the United States, said Saturday he will meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-il. Observers speculate that ideas for cooperation between the two countries could include an oil-for-missiles deal.
Chavez, who has mentioned plans to visit North Korea several times, told reporters the trip would be about bilateral agreements in technology and science. He did not specify a date.

The two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1974 and have strengthened their relationship since Chavez took office in 1998. In September last year, Yang Hyong-sop, the vice president of the North Korea¡¯s Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, visited Caracas and stressed the need for the two countries to respond jointly to ¡°American pressure and threats.¡± About a month later, a North Korean economic delegation visited the south American country. Guillermo Garcia Ponce, a former leader of Venezuela¡¯s Communist Party has reportedly visited North Korea several times, and Pyongyang will reportedly open an embassy in Caracas in the near future, a government official said.

9. Also Iran and Vietnam
Caracas - Leftist Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is planning a whirlwind tour of Iran, North Korea and Vietnam in late July, the foreign ministry in Caracas said Wednesday evening.

The nationalist leader Chavez is expected to meet Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to discuss bilateral relations and greater cooperation on energy.

Iranian Ambassador to Ahmad Sobhani, in first announcing the visit, said the two would no doubt also discuss 'how Iran can share its peaceful nuclear technology with its allies.'

12. Who would want a NK missile?
There are perfectly good weps for sale all over Europe...and I doubt Hugo has much desire for an IBM.
Now he might find a few anti-helo and tank rockets to be verrry useful in the future.

As for Hugo going to Iran, Venezuela is currently the rotating chair of OPEC. I don't see a NK visit much more than a courtesy call. NK has nothing that Venezuela needs, but NK sure needs some oil and some food.

So what if Hugo is anti-American. The last time I checked he was a citizen and the chief magistrate of Venezuela, not a governor of a US state.
