Poll question: On the resignation of President Bush
Edited on Thu Jul-06-06 10:06 PM by originalpckelly
Something must change, the status quo is no longer acceptable. They continually destroy the rights of this free people. We are now treated like complete criminals, though we have not committed crimes. So let it be resolved:

JULY 6, 2006

"We hereby respectfully request that Vice President Cheney resign the office of Vice President immediately. The President shall then choose another person to fill the office of Vice President. Upon the confirmation of the new Vice President, the President shall resign immediately. The new President shall then choose a new Vice President. All political appointments made by the authority of President Bush during his time in office, shall then resign. The new President shall choose people to fill these offices.

An investigation into the activities of the current President, George W. Bush, shall begin immediately, and the President shall make himself available for questioning. There shall be an investigation into the other officers of the government including, but not limited to, the Vice President, the Secretary of Defense, and the Attorney General."

We should then pose the problems he has caused, I recommend we do it in this thread. Maybe we can get people to rally around this, there might still be hope for our nation.

Keep in mind, our party leader (in the House) has specifically said she would not pursue impeachment.

Edit: Insert this at the beginning of resolution:
"The system of checks and balances, so fundamental to the operation of our government have been violated. It is therefore necessary to preserve the rights of Americans via request made by the people." <-Or something to that effect.

2. It would be interesting to see why someone would be against this...
I think it is a very reasonable request. I even said it was made "respectfully."

3. I say employ the Repub tactics against them.
Say one thing and then do another. They said they weren't into nation building and then invade Iraq on "regime change". So we say we're not into impeachment and then when we're in office....

Impeach!!!

Mark.

6. You know...
I have thought about it, I don't have any doubt, they won't impeach him. They are still politicians. Look at the Feingold Censure Resolution, no one showed up for it, except Leahy (I think he HAD to be there.) So why shouldn't we take the bull by the horns? I don't if we can wait the way things are going.

7. It requires that a neocon do something that could be considered honorable.
Just sayin.

5. Nah, delay the whole shebang until the next Congress sits
preferably with a Democrat as Speaker. Then have the two goons resign, period.

The Speaker automatically becomes President, and then he can pick a VP and start to clean house.

You don't want Jebbie to be Stupid's replacement, do you? Or George Allen? Or Contradicta Rice?

That's the flaw in the resolution as it stands.

10. Good point...
but I am trying to go by the book here. I don't know if it would be Constitutional to do that. That is the point of this resolution you know, to protect the Constitution.

11. You know...
they are not playing by the rules. If that could be explained in the resolution, it might be possible to require a Democrat to be President. That is the fundamental problem with this system, why the Neo-Cons are capable of doing so many wrong things.

16. It's the constitutional succession
President, then VP, then Speaker of the House.

If the President and VP are both judged to be irredeemably corrupt, I don't think the constitiution allows for them to pick equally corrupt successors on their way to the pokey.

It just doesn't make any sense. Nixon shed Agnew when Anew came under indictment and appointed Ford before the investigation into Watergate came to a head. There was a quid pro quo, and Ford quickly pardoned Nixon.

We don't want that to happen again. The succession should be followed as it is set out in the constitution.

8. Maybe we could get space aliens to turn them all in to....
...robotic, guitar-playing toads. It has about the same chance of happening.

Let's win the voters and then the election, and leave recriminations to the history books.

13. why would you insist that all bush appointees resign...?
but allow him to choose his successor?

one thing you should know- NOTHING is going to happen, as far as any of these culprits being brought to justice in ANY way. if you're counting on it happening, be prepared for a very big let-down.

I hate the 25th Amendment. How the hell does this work? We need a Constitutional convention.
