Priest: Buffett is 'Dr. Mengele of philanthropists'
Alliance with Gates foundation irks anti-abortion activists

Thursday, June 29, 2006; Posted: 5:38 p.m. EDT (21:38 GMT)

<snip>

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to which Buffett has pledged the bulk of his $44-billion fortune, devotes the vast majority of its funding to combating disease and poverty in developing countries. Less than 1 percent has gone to Planned Parenthood over the years. And the Gates Foundation does not permit its gifts to Planned Parenthood to be used for abortion services.

"The merger of Gates and Buffett may spell doom for the families of the developing world," said the Rev. Thomas Euteneuer, a Roman Catholic priest who is president of Human Life International.

Referring to Josef Mengele, the infamous Nazi death camp doctor, Euteneuer said Buffett "will be known as the Dr. Mengele of philanthropy unless he repents."

<snip>

Beyond the issue of abortion, some critics oppose the Buffett and Gates foundations' support for global family-planning and population control programs.

"Some of the wealthiest men in the world descend like avenging angels on the populations of the developing world," wrote Population Research Institute president Steven Mosher, a frequent critic of Gates and Buffett. "They seek to decimate their numbers, to foist upon vulnerable people abortion, sterilization and contraception."

So, besides sending franklin graham to Africa to force everyone into Christianity, what are these "christians" doing to assist others? If you are really that opposed to abortion, then you should be all about universal health care and education in regards to our bodies and reproduction.

Here's what I'm doing:
www.one.org

I donate and volunteer my services.

2. There is nothing I can respond to here that wouldn't be taken
in the wrong way.

The simplest thing I can say is that I have no use for organized religion, religous rituals, or clergy of any stripe. Organized religion is a blight on society and denigrates spirituality.

The Tommy Douglases?

Good for you.

6. I can't speak for Skidmore obviously, but
I can see your point. It is muddled however, by your excessively snarky attitude.

Even giving you that much, I will state that even the good Rev. King could have done as much good or more had he been secular. However, in that time frame, the path to leadership of the sort he commanded was far simpler for a man deemed to be a religious patriarch. I happen to believe the world will be a better place when that is no longer the case.

8. Religion has been the greater source of more harm to mankind than
any other reason for pain and misery on this planet. It promotes divisiveness, promotes hatred, and I consider most in the modern commercial priestly class to be manipulative and destructive. People like King and Tutu are the rare exception--individuals who tap the wellspring of human good and use it to benefit all others. I'm afraid there are many more Falwells and Robertsons out there.

7. I think what organized religion has become in terms of political
manipulations is what I have no use for.

Although both Mr. kt and I were raised in Christian homes, mine was Democratic. They are pro-union, for an equal education for all, pro-choice, for full equality for all people, regardless of color, sexual orientation religion or no, it doesn't matter. They minded their own business and felt that other's should mind theirs as well.

Mr. kt, on the other hand, was raised by fundy fruitcakes who are bigots and homophobes.

We're close to my parents- we barely speak to his. His family will not be allowed near our children unsupervised die to their cruel behavior. Mine can take the kids and enjoy. We've prepared ourselves before the children so we can work as a team to protect them.

5. Another Reason why many Americans are *recovering* Catholics
These arrogant Priests do not speak as Christians, nor do they apparently get their facts straight, i.e., less than 1 percent is sent to Planned Parenthood.

The Catholic Church in America will become much smaller if they let the Right Wing Koolaid Drinking Bishops MIX Church and State.

9. Abortion, *sterilisation* and contraception?

I am well aware of, and fully support, numerous programs to make abortion and especially contraception available in the third world, but I've never heard of charitable work promoting sterilisation.

Does anyone know of such, or is it likely that he's slipping the word in to make his "Mengele" analogy sound less threadbare?

18. sterilization is a form of contraception.
I guess the priest wouldn't want to say "tying tubes" or "vasectomy" - and sterilization does sound more "evil".

10. I may solicit his assistance in creating my own non-profit org.
I am facing imminent unemployment and figure I've gotta' get creative to survive. I am considering creating a non-prof that focuses on educating rural Americans, kids and adults, about basic liberties and protections and powers of the people per our Constitution. I am still working on this idea about empowering people with tools.

15. "Reverend" Euteneuer is a flaming idiot.
How can one become the "Dr. Mengele" of philanthropy for christ's sake? He obviously just pulled some warmed over Nazi reference from deep within the recesses of his crusty colon that has absolutely nothing to do with Buffet's magnanimous gesture.

I wish they'd foist abortion, sterilization and contraception upon ignorant, hateful bigots posing as Christians.

17. Gotta love those gratuitous Nazi references
seeing as how der Fuhrer outlawed abortion, even going so far as to award a "German Motherhood Cross" to women who reproduced rapidly enough.

http://www.nobeliefs.com/mementoes.htm

Hitler encouraged several programs for the growth of a strong German Nazi Volk. These programs involved the encouragement of the virtues of German motherhood for the purpose of increasing the size of their families and the abolition of abortions (except for the mentally ill). In 1938, Hitler instituted a new award to honor German Nazi motherhood, especially for large families. He awarded such mothers the cross of Honor of the German Mother (Ehrenkreuz der deutschen Mutter).

This might explain why I once saw an anti-choice leader circling around New Orleans' City Park, looking for parking at a David Dukkke rally where I was counterdemonstrating...

and why have they declared war on them{the poor} with their philosophies?

*obviously i know the answer -- but i want it understood the enemy of the poor are the people who would deny women access to every health option there is.

25. your statement at the end of your message
is why i feel we need to open a dialogue with conservative christians. we have many of the same goals as they do (ex. reduce the number of abortions) but different ways of doing it.

that scumbag cal thomas in an article this week said that liberals are anti-god. yes some are, but i think that many are not. we need to demostrate that to this group.

26. How about just saying that some conservative christians are full of shit?
And then if any aren't, they're welcome to "dialogue" with us over shared concerns like health insurance for all our citizens, a liveable minimum wage, and reducing abortions through increased contraceptive availability... all WITHOUT having to pretend like the fact that atheists and other non-Christians are vibrant constituencies in the Democratic Party is anything resembling a liability-- or something to apologize for.
