This is the kindof crap we're dealing with!
LTTE in the Jackson, MS Clarion-Ledger:

Liberals trying to damage security

The left continues to undermine national security in the most despicable, cynical way. I'm quite sure the reasonable liberals at The New York Times know full well that programs like the database on financial records are absolutely vital, and their secrecy is likewise vital ("White House defends financial monitoring," June 24).

However, they have made the most anti-American and evil sort of decision: While tools like this are vital for saving American lives, the liberals will not permit any Republican president to use them.

Only Democratic presidents are permitted to employ the full panoply of powers for protecting American lives.

It's blackmail, pure and simple. Liberals are saying: Either let a Democrat into the White House, or we will continue to sabotage American security and, in effect, kill Americans. We will keep secrets when a Democrat is in office, but not a Republican. So we offer the American people a choice: Let the politicians we favor run the country, or we will help al-Qaida murder you.

OR WE WILL HELP AL-QAEDA MURDER YOU. Now it's BLACKMAIL. WTF are these people putting in their Kool-Aid??? Is this a new Rove/GOP talking point?

2. This clown was what, 1500 miles away from NYC
on 9/11. This hate filled screed just proves a point I've made over and over again: the threat one feels from terrorists is inversely proportional to one's chances of ever confronting one.

This person needs psychiatric help. Either that hate is going to kill him or he's going to snap and start killing us, probably practicing on his wife and kids first.

He's wound WAY too tight.

3. So...
If the NYT lets citizens in a "FREE" country know that Cheney is listening in on our phone calls while jerking off to our bank records, Americans will die? I...think..not. How does one respond to this tripe??? These people are farking paranoid and utterly devoid of sense.

I'm sure terrorists intent on blowing up stuff in the U.S. are going to leave a trail of traceable bank transactions...not! Well, unless you happened to have been coerced into doing so by an undercover FBI agent intent on entrapment. This is why I believe that the Bush cabal simply wants to keep tabs on what the average Joe American citizen is doing, since they're basically paranoid, power-mad despots.

7. Is there any possibility, of a far fetched idea of
rounding up "liberals" as committing treason? I mean, if they collect enough of us, it would scare plenty of others. Would the existing police forces and armed forces really obey such an order?

11. The C-L actually leans barely left of center, sometimes
I found that rather surprising when I came here. But they'll still run syndicated idiots like Cal Thomas. Haven't seen them run Coultergeist in a while though.

that the administration is trying to gut the constitution of the first amendment? Does he realize that they are trying to limit free speech in the USA because the boogeyman might bite us? I say damn the boogeyman and damn this admin for trying to turn the USA into 1940's Germany. I'm tired of losing my rights because some dumb shit is scared that he'll be terrorized. Pssst, hey buddy, you already are terrorized, but not by the people you think.

20. Actually you're not far off.
If we invade Iran next, that will be the third country we have attacked in the middle east in the what; last 4 years?

All the while even a shitload of Democrats, that have been completely against this illegal war since the beginning have bought into the jingoistic tripe about supporting the troops-or else, even though we know innocents thousands of miles away are being slaughtered so that a handful of multinationals can get filthy rich.

Those of us that haven't bought into all of that, are being intimidated and shamed even off of the DU message boards.

No, I think a 1940's Germany analogy isn't far off...
