Cafferty File Questions for Today:
4 p.m.: Is it time to negotiate with the insurgents in Iraq?

5 p.m.: What does it mean that the citizens of Berkeley, California, will vote on whether to call for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney?

7 p.m.: Who's going to win the battle between national security and freedom of the press?

1. Those are easy...
4 p.m.: Is it time to negotiate with the insurgents in Iraq?

No, I think it's just time to LEAVE.

5 p.m.: What does it mean that the citizens of Berkeley, California, will vote on whether to call for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney?

It means that, once again, the Congress has failed to "represent" us, and the citizens are beginning to rise up.

7 p.m.: Who's going to win the battle between national security and freedom of the press?

There truly will be no freedom of the press if the NYT recapitulates or backs down on this, and it'll be National Security 24/7 for the rest of the Bush term.

2. hmm, I don't agree with your #3 response.
The question itself is a set-up, IMHO. The battle isn't really between national security and freedom of the press, the battle is between unlimited presidential power and freedom of the press. The only harm I can see that the media has done to national security has been in going along with the stories that have been fed to it, whether we're talking about the lies leading up the Iraq war or the outing of Plame and her cover company.

The NYT hasn't harmed our national security in the least by publishing the banking story -- it's just made the president uncomfortable. If he wants to be comfortable, he can retire any time; his job, when done properly, is supposed to be hard work.

3. On the 4 let them do it. it is their country,. We should not care.
Or are we really running that country from the WH and our bases that are not there. Wouldn't you just love it if the people of Iraq put a base in your county? Looks to me like the Neo-cons are doing as they like. Telling the Middle East what they can do.

4. My answer to the 5 pm question:
It means the people of Berkeley are not going to let al-Qaeda's attacks destroy our most fundamental beliefs. It'd be nice if we could all do that.

5. They should agree to negotiate
Those people have suffered enough. If there is a chance for some kind of stability before we leave we should do our best to facilitate it if possible.
