SC Ruling Would be a Victory if We Lived in a Democracy
Yeah, I got excited when I read the story this morning about Bush's defeat. He was told "NO" by the judiciary branch - woo hoo! Can't form his own military tribunals, and the more significant "blank check" admonishment. As the day's gone on though, I'm not so excited anymore. Why? Because the Bush Administration, for the past 5 years, has done as they've pleased with no regard to law or the Constitution and I have no reason to believe they'll start now.

Bush says he "takes the ruling seriously" and will talk to Congress about it. But HOW will it be enforced? If the Bush Administration ignores the ruling (which they will) - there is no apparatus in place to stop them from continuing what they've been doing for the past five years. Congress will not, when it's controlled by Republicans who kiss Bush's ring at every opportunity.

What the Supreme Court did today is significant, or would be if all three branches of our government had equal power as our founders intended. The system is broken though, and our Democracy is fading fast. I fear the Supreme Court's ruling is nothing more than words that will collect dust as Bush continues on his merry way.

Can the people of this country ask other countries to help us make the president follow the Constitution? ( a joke, but maybe not).
