Valerie Plame outing vs. the NYT Swift article.
The Republicans are now claiming that the New York Times committed treason for revealing that Swift is involved with investigating financial transactions that might lead us to terrorist. Notice the contrasts with the Valerie Plame outing:

NYT TIMES Swift controversy:

(1) Swift's own webpage, open to the public, reveals this mission statement. They freely advertise that they are assisting in this kind of investigation.

(2) George Bush has been telling us since September 2001 that it was going to be one of the methods we would be using to hunt down the terrorist.

(3) We should know that the terrorists, who are clever enough to use our own system against us to hijack planes, already knew that their financial transactions were being monitored because the newspapers made a big deal about tracking the 9/11 funding to charitable institutions and some kind of honey business.

Now Valerie Plame:

(1) Outside of the "A" Group Beltway Cocktail circuit nobody knew about Valerie Plame; and even those that did know it, could trace the information back to the White House.

(2) Not even Valerie Plame's neighbors knew she worked for the CIA.

(3) If we're indeed in a heighten state of security, why are the Republicans in Washington making cocktail chatter out of anyone that works for the CIA, covert or overt? Don't they know that safety comes first?, to paraphrase a right-wing frosted pundit.

I'm sure this is just scratching the differences between the two, but what DUers should be asking themselves is this:

(1) Is this latest attack on the NYT one of those Karl Rove playbook manuevers to take attention away from the White House and the Valerie Plame situation, (which if you look at closely, you must admit it far more serious?)

and;

(2) When you look at how the Valerie Plame outing is far more obvious a revelation of something that the public didn't know about or could never find out without some big mouth in Washington leaking the information, WHY ARE THE REPUBLICANS NOT AS ANGRY ABOUT THE VALERIE PLAME OUTING AS THEY ARE ABOUT THE NYT?

2. ''It's not treason if the pretzeldent does it.''
Absolutely correct, The Backlash Cometh.

Outing Valerie Plame and Brewster, Jennings & Assoc. damaged the national security of the United States. THAT is an act of treason. Thus, George W Bush and his henchmen are guilty of treason.

4. How can the right-wing reach that conclusion for NYTs and not
for the Plame incident, when Plame was known even less to the public?

3. Busco's attack on the NYT is a smokescreen - for what, I don't know
but at any rate, that is the only thing that makes sense.

Either they are innoculating themselves against some BIG REVELATION that is coming soon from the NYT

Or they are trying to rile up their Kookie Base -- NYT, Gay Marriage, Flag Burning, Illegals, etc

5. I think that the Plame thing is a pimple ready to be popped, and
the outrage against the NYTs is an attempt to get their people stoked up so that when Plame does pop, they can turn around and lamely counter, "But the Liberals got away with it."

I think the Democrats better defend the NYTs hard, and stop the right from framing this issue.
