Looks like Lou Dobbs and Curt Weldons Able Danger scam didn't pan out

Tom Ferrick Jr. | Indiana Jones? No, it's Weldon

It's a scene out of an Indiana Jones movie - or an Indiana Jones parody:

A caravan of jeeps and heavy equipment crawls across the Iraqi desert, headed for a secret location on the banks of the Euphrates River.

Their mission: to dig 25 feet down into the riverbed and unearth concrete bunkers filled with chemical weapons produced by Saddam Hussein's regime and hidden before the outbreak of the Iraq war in 2003.

And who's that, dressed in a safari jacket and a pith helmet, supervising the dig?

None other than our own U.S. Rep. Curt Weldon (R., Pa.), leading a secret mission to unearth the Holy Grail of the war: the weapons of mass destruction that have eluded every other U.S. search team since our troops invaded three years ago. snip

Gaubatz said that Weldon intended just such an expedition over the Memorial Day weekend, until Gaubatz put the kibosh on it.

Weldon, Hoekstra, Santorum = Larry, Curly, Moe

I have been wondering why Dobbs hasn't had Weldon on a couple of times a week blaming 9/11 on Clinton lately. It appears that Weldon has been too busy with even crazier shit as of late.

2. Great stuff at that link. Thanks. Needed a laugh today
Some of my favs from those remarks:

"Snakes ... why did it have to be snakes?"

Doubtless, even if Weldon DID find the cache of WMDs in the Well of the Souls, that nasty Frenchman Belloq (in league with the Nazis, I mean, blogofascists) would entomb Weldon and his plucky galpal.
~~~~
Weldon must be a god to the 101st keyboarders
~~~~
..then you turn around and criticize the guy who is trying to find WMDs?

Dude, you're freaking hillarious! Who needs spy satellites and human intelligence when you have...a shovel!!! hahaha, so so good. Thanks AH.

Oh, and wingnuts, since you're not so eager to sign up to fight in Iraq, maybe you'd be willing to go over there and do a little digging?
~~~~
and my favorite, for clear thinking:
Lets see if I understand all this. They good congressman proposed sneeking into Iraq, going to a possible WMD site unannounce, taking a shovel out of his pack and digging up missing WMDs all because he couldn't trust the military and he wanted all the glory of finding WMD's to himself.
Think about what would probably have happened to this yahoo. My guess is that when he rented his vehicle just outside the green zone somebody would have realized he was an American. They might have realized he was a congressman. Every insurgent in that part of Iraq would have been tasked to hunt him down. Assuming he was able to leave Bagdad, he and his little band would have been rounded up by the insurgents. His significant other (I assume he is married, but he might be gay for all I know)would have promptly got on the phone and called somebody in the military. The administration would have gone apeshit to get him back. A bunch of 19 to 25 year olds just trying to get through their time in Iraq without being shot would have been assigned to find him. All kinds of equipment would have been employed. A bunch of those 19-25 year olds would have been killed or wounded in the effort. So would a lot of innocent Iraqis. Ultimately he would have been beheaded.
All in all it would just be easier, cheaper and safer for all concerned if the good people of Pennsylvania were to vote this clown out of office.
6. omg! Weldon of Arabia!
:rofl:
<snip>
Did you get that? He was going to take a little jaunt to Nasiriyah, break out his shovel, and start digging around himself — without telling the military what he was doing. Then, when the glorious shells were found, he was going to call in the press and declare himself Weldon of Arabia, Discoverer of WMD.
Ho-lee shit. Pennsylvania can do better than this whackjob, can't they?
and scary too! :scared:
I needed the laughs...
<snip>
Something tells me Weldon keeps a laminated picture of G. Gordon Liddy and a jar of Vaseline on his bedside table.
:rofl:
4. Weldon in safari wear -- ugh!
Thanks for the nightmares.
Honestly, is he running for God of the Morans or what? There's absolutely no logic to the assertion that there are WMD. Colin Powell showed us very high resolution satellite photographs of "mobile weapons labs", and yet not ONE such photo has ever been produced showing weapons being buried or spirited out of Iraq. And to do it would have taken many truckloads. Don't these prats think we'd have been WATCHING for such a thing?
5. This could make a great movie--maybe three.
Scenario 1. Action Adventure
Intrepid congressman decides to sneak into Iraq without telling the U.S. military--who are apparently suppressing evidence of WMD--to uncover the elusive weapons. He battles overly cautious officials and mows down Iraqi insurgents and in the end drives his convoy of nerve gas, anthrax and plutonium right into the central command briefing room during a press conference while the President is visiting. Weldon to be played by Harrison Ford.
Scenario 2. Comedy
Congressman Weldon, desperately seeking attention, decides to sneak into Iraq without telling the U.S. military--who are apparently suppressing evidence of WMD--to uncover the elusive weapons. He is ripped off by an Iraqi used car dealer, captured by a band of wannabe terrorists who are more confused than he is--and scared shit less of the real terrorists around them, and eventually talks them into take him to the weapons dump. He drives his convoy of nerve gas right into the central command briefing room during a press conference. He drops on of the canisters. It turns out to be helium. The general ends up talking in a ridiculously high voice and gets bawled out by the President. Weldon to be played by Danny DeVito.
Scenario 3. Terroris propeganda video
Congressman Weldon decides to sneak into Iraq without telling anyone. The used car dealer he buys his jeep from tips off the insurgents. The subsequent video of his beheading is a huge hit on Al Queda websites from Basra to Borneo.
7. Why doesn't the NYT ever do a front page spread on these idiots?
Instead we get a story about the Clinton marriage.
Something just doesn't seem right.
