Two charged in marijuana muffins
Two teenagers were indicted by a grand jury Wednesday on felony charges in connection with the delivery of marijuana-laced muffins to the teacher's lounge of a suburban Dallas high school last month. No one was seriously injured.

Ian Walker and Joseph Tellini, both 18, each face five counts of assault on a public servant, third-degree felonies that carry sentences of up to 10 years total.

Rachel Raya, a spokeswoman for the Dallas County district attorney's office, said the two could get 20 years if convicted and the court finds that a controlled substance was involved.

3. pathetic is it not
I wonder what effect it would have on the whole scheme of things if they took the laws against Marijuana off the books. Would lawyers really miss the money, would the savings of the cost of incarceration or probation be offset by the lack of income from the fines etc. to our court system. me thinks it would be a win/win situation for all involved.

5. What these kids did was wrong
They brought pot brownies to the teachers lounge.

I don't care what people put in their own bodies, but to give someone, anything without their knowledge should be punished.

8. No offense.....
but don't you think the possibility of twenty years is a bit extreme? I'll bet the Enron crooks don't get that large a sentence. No one asks for my permission to put insecticides on our produce...should they be punished?

12. I didn't address that issue
did I? I said they should be punished. There is not enough info given in the story to know whether or not 20 years is appropriate.

9. Marijuana in food can come on very strong.
And I agree that dosing someone without their knowledge is wrong.

Why did those boys waste the pot on people who wouldn't appreciate it? Kids, these days!

10. "no one was seriously injured"
Who the hell are these hysterics kidding?

No, I wouldn't like it if somebody laced something of mine with any drug, including pot. However, if it were to happen, pot is the ONLY drug I wouldn't be pissed off about. Pot is relatively harmless, much less harmful than the fat in those muffins.

I am SO SICK of the drug warriors and their continual drumbeat about the devil drug, pot. I am SO SICK of the fear driven suburban parents who lap it all up and drive this lunatic war against a benign substance.

The time to end the demonization of this drug is NOW.

19. but for someone unfamiliar with the effects, it could be dangerous
Since not everyone knows what a marijuana high feels like (and since, properly prepared, ingested marijuana can be a fairly intense high), I could see where that might cause problems. I think of my mother, for instance, an innocent lil' old schoolteacher with no experience in that regard. She teaches 5th grade, so it's unlikely (let's hope) that any of her kids will send her pot brownies any time soon, but I would certainly consider it assault if someone did.

I agree completely about the stupid demonization of pot, though.
