9. OK, bad choice of words.
"Is Global Warming Real?" Aparently, the National Academy of Sciences, to these two morans, is not to be trusted.

"Al Gore- myths, lies, absolute stupidity", "Hatred of capitalism."

Yikes. OK, not unbelieveable. Crazy, but not unbelieveable.

4. Stossel has no integrity on scientific issues.
Didn't he get caught for manipulating information on an agriculture issue to try to push his right-wing agenda? Why is he even on television? Most people who get caught red-handed as he did, generally go a la Jason Blair.

6. I heard a brilliant radio interview of Stossel a few years back.
They were talking to Stossel about his then-recent book called "Give Me a Break : How I Exposed Hucksters, Cheats, and Scam Artists and Became the Scourge of the Liberal Media..." and basically kept hammering him with, "what do liberals have to do with that?" over and over (in Texas, no less!).

Eventually, Stossel admitted that the publisher put "liberal" in the title to appeal to certain demographics and he had no say in the matter.

Competitive Enterprise Institute's Category 5 Gore bashing....
Conservatives having a field day with the release of Al Gore's new film on global warming

.....Another longtime, and leading, purveyor of disinformation about global warming is the Washington, D.C.-based Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), which is attempting to discredit Gore's film, while continuing its campaign aimed at convincing the public that the jury "is still out" on the issue and there is no global warming crisis.

According to SourceWatch, a project of the Center for Media and Democracy, CEI's commentators and commentaries frequently appear in a broad assortment of media venues including ABC's 20/20, the American Spectator, Christian Science Monitor, Consumers' Research, CNN'S Crossfire, Forbes, Good Morning America, Larry King Live, PBS' The News Hour with Jim Lehrer, Moneyline, New York Times, PBS, Reader's Digest, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and the Washington Times.

CEI has apparently established a special relationship with John Stossel, a correspondent on ABC's 20/20, SourceWatch reported:

''When Stossel came under fire in August 2000 for citing nonexistent scientific studies on a 20/20 segment bashing organic foods, CEI set up a "Save John Stossel" website to help him keep his job.

Stossel returned the favor the following year by working with Michael Sanera to put together a program titled "Tampering With Nature" that focused on attacking environmental education. In March 2001, a pesticide industry front group known as Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment (RISE) sent out an action alert memorandum to its members. "Mr. Sanera has been contacted by ABC News," the memo stated." A producer for John Stossel is working on a program on environmental education. He needs examples of kids who have been 'scared green' by schools teaching doomsday environmentalism in the classroom. ... He has some examples, but needs more. Would you send out a notice to your group and ask if they know of some examples. Then contact Mr. Sanera ... Let's try to help Mr. Stossel. He treats industry fairly in his programs."

Apparently neither Stossel nor CEI applied similar standards of fairness toward the schoolteachers and students they interviewed. Prior to the program's air date in July, several California parents of children interviewed by Stossel filed a complaint with ABC, stating that they had been misled about the nature of the program and the types of leading questions their kids would be asked. Seattle teacher John Borowski also being approached by ABC producer Ted Balaker, who attempted to trick him into appearing on camera by claiming that he was making a documentary about Earth Day, while denying that he was working with Stossel and Sanera.''

much, much more here....I love this

John Stossel is a pathological liar....

Webster's Medical Dictionary defines a "pathological liar" as "an individual who habitually tells lies so exaggerated or bizarre that they are suggestive of mental disorder." Next to this definition should be this picture - a photo of a self-important, smarmy looking, all-too-coiffed ABC News "reporter" named John Stossel. You may have noticed that Stossel is out hawking a book called "Myths, Lies, and Downright Stupidity" purporting to debunk those things. Instead, what we see is that Stossel is spewing them - and using his media platform as a megaphone of dishonesty. Stossel, in many ways, is exactly why I wrote my new book Hostile Takeover - to strip bare the opportunists, shills and half-wits who dominate our political debate and show them for what they really are: pathological liars.

Here's what I mean. According to the right-wing, Scaife-owned Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Stossel appeared on ABC's "The View" to talk about his book's assertion that the minimum wage supposedly hurts low-income workers. The host was surprised that someone could make such a ludicrous claim. "Why does raising the minimum wage -- this one I don't get -- actually hurt poor people?," she asked Stossel. "I don't understand that one at all."

Mind you, Stossel is making this claim at precisely the same time President Bush is claiming we need a guest worker program because there are actually too many entry-level, low-wage jobs that aren't being filled. But beyond that, the actual data exposes Stossel's pathological lying. As I note in my book's section on this very lie about minimum wages supposedly hurting the job market:

"In a comprehensive 2004 study, the nonpartisan Fiscal Policy Institute reported that since 1997, states that had boosted their minimum wage above the federal minimum actually created jobs faster than those that did not. In higher minimum wage states, employment grew by 50 percent more than it did in states still at the pathetic federal level. Even in tough economic times, the minimum wage doesn't hurt jobs: Princeton University economist David Card found that even the minimum wage increases during the 1990-91 recession 'were not associated with any measurable employment losses.' As Republican Sen. Arlen Specter (PA) once noted, “history clearly demonstrates that raising the minimum wage has no adverse impact on jobs."...In Oregon, for instance, the state raised its minimum wage in 1998, and the average earnings of newly-employed welfare recipients climbed by 9 percent, while the percentage of welfare recipients who found a job actually rose."

Edited on Thu Jun-29-06 04:10 PM by Gabi Hayes
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-sirota/john-stossel-is-a-patholo_b_21903.html

John Stossel is not only stupid and a liar, the guy is downright dangerous.

This past season he did a sham segment questioning the efficacy of car seats and boosters for children above 2 years of age. The crux of his analysis was this - most people do not install the seats properly for those ages and, rather than learning to install the seats correctly, we should just stop worrying about it altogether. In fact, according to Stossel, kids above 2 are probably better off with just a seatbelt.

Seriously, this was he argued on a national news program. He then tried to buttress his argument by implying, in an almost absurd fashion, that data in favor of car seats is rigged by car seat manufacturers.

Never did he truly analyze existing data with respect to the safety benefits of correctly installed car seats. More importantly, never did he cite applicable data supporting his bogus claim that kids may be better off just wearing a seat belt.

How ABC escaped a total PR meltdown from this episode I will never understand. My wife and I sat watching the Stossel piece in a sate of near shock, refusing to believe that a seemingly legitimate journalistic program could be offering up such ludicrous and dangerous information.
