Net Neutrality, Round 3
We lost on the floor of the House of Representatives a few weeks ago.

We lost in a Senate committee today (11-11, tie goes to AT&T.)

But it's not over.

Senator Ron Wyden, Democrat from Oregon, is putting a hold on the Telecommunications Bill until Net Neutrality is added.

Please call your Senators' offices and ask them to support Ron Wyden.

Net Neutrality means that AT&T can't decide to make some websites run faster for its customers and "Democratic Underground" run more slowly for its customers.

2. Kick
The situation reminds me a bit of how the cable companies had, and in some cases still still do a strangle hold in certain areas. Didn't like your cable company? Too bad.

I know it's not the same, but definitely a worthy cause.

3. Similar situation. If we each had at least one ISP

serving our neighborhoods promising Net Neutrality, then the situation wouldn't be do dire.

But I'm not aware of ANY ISP IN AMERICA promising not to discriminate against websites even if Congress says it's legal to discriminate.

4. Kicked
I've been banging this drum for awhile.

Let's get together and support Ron Wyden.

Call and fax your Senate critters even if they've expressed the desire to support the telcos. Let them know you're pissed about net neutrality.

By the by, whatever happened to that guy who kept banging the drum for the telcos?

8. Don't know.
It was someone with a low post count who pooh-poohed the whole idea of net neutrality. Said it wouldn't make any difference except to stifle broadband service.

I suspect that he would also support draconian DRM and Broadcast Flag. ( No evidence but that was the tenor of his arguement). He no doubt figures that TIVO is 'disruptive technology'.

I don't understand your reply - Did you actually read my post? Do you acknowledge it? Or are you just trying to keep this thread kicked, I don't understand...It seems you just utter some statement... I wrote I was AGREEING with you!!!

We already seem how AT&T, Verizon, etc... will give the government our phone records and they will do as the republicans asked as far as the Internet is concerned as well...

It's simply a way the government can control liberal sites and use corporations like AT&T to do the republicans dirty work for the republicans (and the corporations can make tidy profits while controlling it).

This is perfect for the republicans who have for years been pissed over the way liberals heighten awareness and raise money via the Internet...and they want it stopped

However, If the republicans/government were to just stepped in to try and control the flow on the Internet it would be quite obvious, and they have tried using porn and children's safety. etc.....it didn't fly, neither would any other kind of government regulations or legislation...

But republican think tanks always come to the fascist rescue...Have the corporations do it indirectly, for the republicans, and in time they will be able to control the content almost completely. And that's what this bill will do...have corporations control the Internet and the republicans will get the job done through AT&T Verizon etc...

And the republicans will say... the government had nothing to do with it. It's just capitalism at work.

No, it's coporations controlling the content of the web to run as it is now, freely!

And as always the republicans will exploit it to control liberal & progressive content!!!

16. It means: I'm going to filibuster.
If at least 40 Senators stand with Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) then there will be no telecommunications bill before the 2006 election, or "Net Neutrality" will be added to the bill.
