Specter a Beacon of Common Sense??????
WASHINGTON -- Thank goodness for Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Arlen Specter, R- Pa. He's actually serious about the rule of law, the importance of the Constitution and the oversight role of Congress, despite the current GOP attitude that anything goes so long as the president wants it.

Specter will give off his usual bluster, then in the end drop his pants and hand Bush the lube. He's just another Repug yes man, and even worse because he pretends to have an independent streak.

2. You are probably right
But, hey he is at least making some noise about the issue, which is far, far more than most of the bunch and it is keeping it in the media for a bit. That in itself can't really be helping *. Might not be hurting all the much, but it can't be helping. A few crumbs for a bit is about all we will get and yes, it ain't much, but it's better than nuthin.

4. Don't get your hopes up, he pulls this stunt about once a week.
When is it finally going to sink into people's heads that Specter is just a cardboard cut out of a Senator (or a human being for that matter)? He has no more intentions of investigating this administration than I do in enlisting and serving in Bush's War.

Every few weeks Specter gets all worked up, stamps his feet, pisses and moans about this administration seizing the Congress' power but he always ends up crawling back into his office with a squeaky little, "Never mind!" He will never, ever, ever take on KKKarl and The Minions. N.E.V.E.R.

The Dems have got to quit being sucked into this Faux Specter drama. Just like Charlie Brown always giving Lucy the benefit of the doubt when trying to kick that damn football, the Dems keep thinking there will be an honest repug (quickly becoming an oxymoron) that won't jerk the ball back at the last minute. It ain't gonna happen.

3. Actually, this is the usual Modus operandi for Spector
He does it all the time. He pretends to raise a big stink about something the Bush administration does, so the general public all thinks he's looking out for us. Then a week or two later, he declares that after studying things more in depth, he realizes that he was wrong and that we can all take his word for it - everything's on the up and up.

He's done it time and time again. I'd like to believe that he actually has a conscience, but I've been burned too many times.

5. Specter : Cover your ass with oversight windowdressing
When he starts giving witnesses the oath I'll pay attention, otherwise he's just another brand of GOP shill.
