1. I support them all the way but....
...I support our environment and refuse to buy newspapers because I can get it on the internet and save resources.

HOWEVER!!!

There are advertisers in both the NYTimes newspaper and on their website. I will try to make an effort to patronize those places!

8. Very true!! So for people like us who won't buy newspapers
Go to http://www.nytimes.com/ and support their advertisers too - and let the advertisers know you're supporting them because of this issue

3. One of life's little pleasures
Buying the NYT in New Orleans and reading it on the bench in Jackson Square while sipping a Cafe Alait from Cafe Dumonde.

4. That is exactly what I do, too.
Buy the NYT and read it at Starbucks every morning.

It's a good habit to get into.

5. A Starbucks opened a couple of years ago
a block from Cafe Dumonde on Decatur Street. Very bad idea for Starbucks. They had to move several blocks away to generate any business. Oh do I love that Cafe Alait.

I had three but the mother died not too long ago - she was very old.

15. My boy was only 5 when he died.
He had a heart attack. When I found him, his head was hanging over the side of the cat tower.

17. Oh, I am so sorry.
It is so hard. Some cats live a long time and some don't. But I have been so blessed to have had their companionship all of these years. My brown tabby cats have just had the best personalities.

9. You mean the rag that ran Judy Miller's lies
that were a big part of getting us into an illegal war?

No thanks. The NYT can continue to go screw itself.

14. Are you kidding?
They printed demonstrable lies, and when they were revealed as such they defended Miller by insulting its readership via Daniel Okrent, a pathetic joke of an ombudsman.

And Whitewater? They breathlessly flogged Whitewater and have yet to run a single correction or note admitting that it was a non-story.

They buried the real results of 2000.

They give idiots like Brooks and Friedman column inches.

Fuck the NYT. The Old Grey Lady is a whore.

11. They're a PNACing, Judy Miller Lovin' Rag
I will NOT support them.

They spent five years chasing Clinton's penis and they loved and whored for the war.

This little "NYT endangering the country" lollygag is grist for the RW talking head radio dicks to pretend that a newspaper that's liberal on social issues is somehow also 'helping the terraists."

Its all BULLSHIT, SPIN and CLAPTRAP.

Ack.

21. thirded!
now how can a bunch of experienced reporters and editors at the NYT get duped by the bush machine for the Iraq home invasion when I knew it was bullshit galore right from the start.

no way, no way I will forgive them. ::hock-petuey::

16. It's clear you don't know jackshit about the NYT
Anyone who regularly reads the Times- flawed as it sometimes is- should be able to recognize that virtually everything you just wrote is garbage.

The Times is a world class paper with some terrific reporting. Yes, they screw up at times, but there's far more evidence of their value than there is of their purported perfidy.

Ignorance, my friend, is not a virtue.

18. Well, I've been reading it
For about 40 years and it WAS once a great paper. It is now an utter warmongering rag on political issues. See: Judy Miller, Tom Friedman, et al

I like the travel section.

:-)

24. I'll see your Judy Miller and Thom Friedman
and raise you a John Burns, Edward Wong, Dexter Filkins, Eric Lichtblau, Paul Risen, Howard French, Linda Greenhouse, Rick Lyman, Eric Lipton, Frank Rich, Bob Herbert, Paul Krugman, Maureen Dowd and Nicholas Kristof.

The best, most revealing reporting out of Iraq has been in the Times. The best SC coverage is in the Times. Just yesterday they had a comprehensive story by Lizette Alvarez entitiled "Military Fails some Widows over benefits." This is the kind of story you won't find in other papers. Before practically any other journalist in Iraq, Burns wrote that there was a devolution toward civil war.

Yes, I'm still pissed about Judith Miller, but she's not representative of the quality of the work of most Times reporters.

19. Sorry, I don't even visit their site anymore
The NY Times was a standard of journalism for many years, bu tthe Judy Miller episode disgusted me to no end. While I realize the coordinated effort against the Times is a political ploy, I don't subscribe to the idea of supporting the Times. Nope, they sold out long ago.

28. I Like the NYT. I read it almost every day.
It gives a lot better overview of things than the KC Star.

But that is just my opinion.

If you think the Times is a right wing rag what do you read?

30. I figure if this adm. want s to bring criminal charges against them
they can't be all bad.

Really, I read the paper everyday and I think they report more and better than any other newspaper out there.

I wish they would do more. But the atmospher right now is not the best for freedom of the press.

I just wish they could really screw this adm. over.

But if you hate them it would probably be best if you just don't buy the paper.
