NBC and The Fishing Chicks
I do not see why NBC's Today Show is doing a segement on the women called the fishing chicks. Women go fishing all the time. These are not the only women who go fishing. One of the reporters just pointed out that in Flordia 29% of the women go fishing. I just think this story is a little stupid. This was just a completely stupid interview. Campbell Brown just asked the women how their families feel about their fishing club. Of course their families are okay with them fishing. It is fishing. What could someone's family possible dislike about them going fishing.

you have to fill up the time with SOMETHING, if you don't use real journalism.

2. Maybe they think it's a big story...who knows? Around here,
which is after all a lakeside community, probably 90% of the women fish...

5. "Gone Fishing" means they're not around to be short order cooks
or tell everybody where they put things they can't find, or to do any of a thousand stupid things their families should be doing for themselves. I can see where there is potential resentment, just like there's resentment over anything a married woman does for herself that doesn't directly benefit the rest of the household.

Deny it if you must, but that resentment is always there. It's her JOB, you see, to be on call all the time just in case somebody needs something.

That's the reason behind the segment. How DARE they take time to do something not related to that household? How DARE they enjoy something for themselves? Don't they know their families might need them?

Women having an outside interest is still seen as bizarre and threatening.

7. You obviously never married a fisherman
women who marry fisherman, recreational that is, are known as fishing widows becasue the husbands are gone all the time fishing. That could be the reason the family doesn't like them fishing. This Today Show fluff is typical of the crap the put forth every morning, lets get to the real news.

8. We camped at the lake this weekend with some close friends.
Two of the young women in our party, ages 18 and 20, loaned their fishing gear to their boyfriends so they could fish. Women fishing is a common sight around my neck of the woods.
