Responses to my on-line
response to a story in our local newspaper re: Once again, Sears Tower the target of a terror plot.

Me:"Terra! Terra! Terra! Once again, the Bush Junta, being close to an election, pushes their favorite topic..."TERRA". Yet another red herring from the folks who brought us Abu Ghraib, NSA spying on American citizens, illegal war brought about by lies, government surveillance of the bank records of private citizens, 9/11, and the introduction of "My Pet Goat" by our esteemed "leader" while our country was being attacked. (Donning my flame suit 'cuz I know the paid GOP operatives will soon be out in full force.) "

First "intelligent" response: "You are an idiot. How can you blame BUSH for this? Get a clue, SOON. I for one have NOTHING to hide. If listening to my phone calls while ordering a pizza is intrusive, intrude all you want. YOU and all the DIMocratic whiners simply have to whine, since the DIMocrats couldnt produce a candidate who could WIN an election."

My two favorites, both from "Samantha": "How could the democrats produce a "winner" in any campaign when you have a "will do anything to get my way" cheat in the election ( is it any coincindence the recount state was governed by his brother) lie about WMD, etc, etc. Im sure it's just a matter of time before we hear "No, your honor, I DID NOT have sexual relations with that woman" come from his mouth"

and

"And, yes, I do realize that those words were first uttered by Clinton, a democrat. A lie is a lie, whether your red or blue."

2. Unfreaking believable
I wrote a response for your blog. I think they are putting something in the water supply to the Midwest, seriously. It makes people terminally stupid, like rapid onset of brain wasting Mad Cow disease.

3. Nah, there's just a time lag
I remember visiting relatives in the midwest, traveling up from the south in the early sixties, and thinking the midwest was about ten years behind the south in just about everything. I think that was a pretty astute observation for a gawky and pimply high school kid.

It's a good thing I wasn't visiting from the northeast or far west, the culture shock might have traumatized me for life.

The whole televangelist thing really got rolling in the early 80s when Reagan gave the party to the nuts. That's when it turned into a mass movement in the rest of the country. The midwest, being time lagged, is just at the peak of that now, while the rest of the country has started to wake up and dismiss the pompadoured ranters as anything but a sideshow for corporate snake oil.

Give them time. The movement that is making them seem so backward now will pass the way it has in the rest of the country and they'll be behind in whatever comes next.

4. Thanks for the responses.
I was raised here in west central IL but made the "mistake" of leaving for Colorado for 28 years. Talk about a culture shock when I returned. I once had a neighbor say to me, AFTER a conversation about the fact my kids and their dad are Jewish, that Hitler had the right idea. Culture shock puts it mildly.

As for people coming around, I hope you are right, Warpy, because the sick, twisted, unedumaketed mindset that surrounds me is pretty darned scarey.

Off to work! Will check in later.

Thanks again!
