Egg narrowly misses Blair
Edited on Sun Jun-25-06 09:16 AM by dogday
LONDON: British Prime Minister Tony Blair narrowly missed being hit by an egg yesterday as he travelled to southwest England to meet crime victims.

Blair, whose Labour Party is sagging badly in public opinion polls, was greeted with jeers from a 60-strong crowd as he arrived at a community centre in Bristol city.

One woman threw an egg at him, but it missed its target and broke over the road instead. Police later confirmed that she had been arrested in connection with the incident.

Blair travelled to the deprived Southend district of Bristol to hear a group of 16 local residents describe how they have been intimidated by local thugs, only to be badly treated when they gave evidence against them in court.

1. Too bad she missed, of course,
but I wonder if these tactics ever changed the mind of a single office-holder, or just makes them dig their heels in.

6. Of course you're right, but
it's the personal satisfaction... not to mention the satisfaction it gives all us observers.

And welcome to DU.

13. thanks for the welcome
I'd rather get some real satisfaction, though.

Still, as long as people realize that they can go to jail for assault in these cases, there is a sort of vicarious thrill in seeing the bad guys get their's.

10. When they refuse to be a decent human being no matter what, I think...
...that there's great value to at least showing them how truly hated they are.

14. As I stated to
another poster, there is a certain vicarious thrill to be had, although I wouldn't want to be the egg-thrower frog-marched off to jail for exercising my free speech rights.

also, it's not like progressive leaders aren't hated, too, by the dark side forces. And it's not like said Dark side forces consider say, Kennedy, Kerry, Pelosi, or Reid to be decent human beings. What I'm trying to say is, every negative thing we think about them, they think about us. It's like we're from two differnet planets, maybe even galaxies. So, I'm wondering when one of th eabove will find his face full of pie, or egg, as the case may be.

16. Hey! Quit throwing around all that...

...rational thought! I don't take too kindly to such things.

Alright fine, you're right. But I will say that I don't think it would have bothered me all that much had she been on target with the egg - even after knowing that in the big picture it would have been more negative than anything.

BTW, welcome to DU. :toast:

5. I only wish the egg had met it's mark
If they are going to arrest her, she should of least had the satisfaction of seeing egg on Blair's face... Literally

4. Why is egg-throwing illegal?
It's not like it would actually hurt him. What about rotten vegetables - say, an over ripe tomato?

8. The issue is about throwing anything. An egg would do no damage, but
other thrown objects could be injurious or deadly. If you do not want your favorite politician pelted with something deadly, then the same rules should apply to the opposition.

15. LOL, Brown's Tridents will deterr those eggs.

Isn't egg white good for the hair,
does it clean the roots and show whem true,
can't wash it out, authoritarian stare,
turned embarassed down signin' bliars blues.

Roman empire lavished baths in temple air,
and blairs norman stare, square and poo poo,
charge at the cashpoint, government tare,
thuggish hens tossing life, lady's hair shampoo.

Blessing of eggs, brave heart stares down,
West Lothian legs, Brown's new man in town,
nuclear fool wastes twenty billion pound,
on a warmongers waste, submarines can be found.
Infrared plumes and habits most repetetive,
deterrence its not, waste at best explicative.

17. I would suggest that he already has egg on his face ...
... after marching off to war with his "best friend" George.

By the way, for the benefit of any security personnel who might be reading this thread, I personally would not waste food in this manner.
