Repubs-a-spinning: plan "steep" troop cuts!

U.S. drafts plan for steep troop cuts in Iraq: NYT

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The top U.S. commander in Iraq has drafted a plan that projects steep reductions in the U.S. military presence there by the end of 2007, The New York Times reported on Saturday.

Looks like Kerry-Feingold KO'd their spin!

2. This actually IS cut and run unlike the Kerry/Feingold plan
It's cut and run because there is NO logic behind it and certainly no plan that I can make heads or tails of. Sen. Kerry ALWAYS talked about having an international summit and agreeing with the Iraqi government on how the troops would be withdrawn.

This is beyond pathetic.

Josh was really sore with Democrats this week (he liked neither Levin/Reid nor Kerry/Feingold); however, he has some great rhetoric that is very apt:

More evidence that the administration has no plan in Iraq.

No leaving Iraq until 2009, the president says. But then the administration leaks word that the pull-out is in 2007. No plan -- just whatever sounds best at the moment.

Against a phased withdrawal before they were for it.

They can't keep their story straight because they don't have any plan or sense what they're doing.

Who can trust them to get it right after they've gotten it wrong so many times?

Kerry in 2004 always talked about withdrawing troops if conditions were right. Bush's rhetoric of "stay the course" forever has always been coupled with this winking/nodding bit. The campaign of calling Kerry a "flip flop" was because the real flip flopper was ALWAYS George W. Bush.

8. This will only be operational through November of 06
C'mon, this is total BS. Remember, they deleted the rider to wipe out the permanent bases and they are building that $500MM US diplomatic monument in Baghdad. They are there for the oil. Troops will be there as long as there is oil to steal.

10. Thanks, I missed that.
That's really interesting. Party discipline is breaking down. The WH and PNAC club must be ballistic about this....how else can they bring the New American Century to the ME if they don't have these forward positioned airbases? They've made a huge investment in Iraq, I have a hard time believing that they won't find another way to circumvent this obstacle.

5. From what I gather in the article, the pre election cuts amount to 7K or
so soldiers. Probably won't even amount to a net decrease in troops.

They just want to float the IDEA out there that the Repubs are going to get us out of Iraq, too, without having to take any real steps to do so, and without the words having to come out of shrubco's mouth, which would be an embarassing "flip flop".

6. do we have enough Guardsmen left to pump up the numbers in Iraq
Edited on Sat Jun-24-06 07:44 PM by gkhouston
before they make these "steep cuts"? Watch for it -- they'll bump up the numbers before reducing 'em, just like department store "sales".
