'Warm' species invading Antarctic
By Paul Rincon
Science reporter, BBC News

Scientists are calling for action to prevent foreign species from taking hold in Antarctica and wrecking the continent's unique ecosystems.

Despite Antarctica's inhospitable environment, non-native species introduced by tourists, scientists and explorers are gaining a foothold.

Species can hitch a ride on ships and planes carrying visitors and supplies.

A paper on the matter tabled at the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting in Edinburgh met with "good agreement".

It costs thousands and sometimes millions of dollars to try and get rid of something... prevention is better than a cure
Neil Gilbert, Antarctica NZ
"Antarctica has long been considered as an isolated continent with a harsh environment. So the general perception has been that we don't need to worry about non-native species. We know better now," Dr Gilbert, environmental manager at Antarctica New Zealand, told BBC News.

1. The Republicans ignore/reject/deny FACTS and EVIDENCE
which makes them DELUSIONAL....there is no other explanation...is there?

The SELFISHNESS is apparent/obvious when the solution calls for the major polluters in America to clean up their act...

"But it will cost billions"

WTF? A few Billion to fix it...? and they refuse? Fuck the Planet? The GOPers amaze me with their collective Stupidity.

2. Hence the Number One Reason for Terrorism
They ignore until shit hits the fan, then they blame everyone else for it.

6. yup... that too
But what I mean, is when a nation attacks or tries to oppress poor people in another nation, who have no other means to defense, they rely on acts of terrorism or insurgencey as in Iraq. Our chickens have come home to roost, so now we live in a country dictated by terrorism and the GOP continues on with their agenda as before. The perfect excuse to spit on the Constitution and to throw away our citizen rights. All an excuse with no REAL solutions.

3. I post on another blog during the day
and there are about 5 RWers there who giggle among themselves about Gore's book and movie.

It must hurt to be so bloody stupid.

Science is one discipline that can NOT be ignored.

4. As Gore says: "Glaciers don't care about about politics.
They don't respond to ideology or spin."

7. Thanks for posting CatWoman,
but I have heard that ignorance is bliss, so I imagine they must be ecstatic. It's the people that actually care about whether the Earth goes to hell in a hand basket that are hurting.

If you ever view the science fiction movie "Independence Day", about aliens coming to Earth to destroy it, you can see those people you are referring to going to the top of a skyscraper to smile, greet and wave to the alien space ship just before they were burned to a crisp by the alien's laser.
