Reporter Explains How Brutality Against Fallen Troops is a "Positive"
From yesterday's Pentagon press briefing-

Q Thank you. My question again, sir, to General Casey, if I may. General, I know this going to be painful for you, but the American public would like to know definitively the type of barbarous and the brutality that our GIs face over there. No one has talked about what has happened to these two captured and killed GIs. Can you be explicit? Were they decapitated? If so, were the bodies dumped by the -- were the heads dumped by the bodies? What else can you tell us?

GEN. CASEY: Yeah, I can't and I won't......

Q Just to follow up. The families would like to know, as would we, because perhaps in some bizarre way, even though this is tragic, it's going to turn out to be positive for America, because traditionally, when Americans get mad enough, they tend to get behind situations like this. If you can give us a hint at all, we'd be most appreciative.

The hack reporter's bartering for his scoop; if Casey will just cut loose with some grisly details about the deaths of the captured Americans, the hack reporter can help the government manipulate the public's anger, thereby delivering its support for the war.

Except that isn't always how it works out, now is it?

To his credit, Casey declined the offer (publicly, at least). To the General's discredit, the hack reporter -so willing to trade in the broken bodies of our countrymen- wasn't ejected from the room on his ignoble ass.

9. The problem is that he volunteers his spin on the answer right in the Q
If it were just to inform the public, as distasteful as his interests are, it wouldn't be quite so....diabolical. But how can he possibly assume that the reaction would be to "get behind" the situation? Wouldn't an equally logical response be to recoil and say BRING THEM HOME?

14. I totally agree. Problem is we see this every day
We see the spin of the expected answer woven into the question every day. We see it this tactic used by cnn, msnbc, and of course fox. This is one of the more agregious uses of the tactic because of the subject matter, it almost physically hurts.

The suspension of logic, rational thought, and basic humanity have been manifesting themselves in many facets of American culture for a while now--since Jan '2000.
