More Good news we don't get to hear from the "liberal media."

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The Iraqi government declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew Friday after insurgents set up roadblocks in central Baghdad and opened fire on U.S. and Iraqi troops outside the heavily fortified Green Zone.

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki ordered everyone off the streets of the capital from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

U.S. and Iraqi forces also fought gunmen in the volatile Dora neighborhood in south Baghdad.

1. Road blocks all over Baghdad and drat the luck, Norman Mineta resigns.
Just the moment in the sun for a Transportation Secretary, and Norm's out the back door.

2. Emergency curfew in Baghdad
Hi Botany,

While I was trying to get this posted, you beat me to it (glad you did). Isn't it interesting that although this is BIG news, all we hear on CNN is the 'Miami terrorists' case development.

It's deja vu, all over again. In more ways than one:

- Overshadow terrible news in Iraq
- Frighten us even more
- Get ready for the big day in November

5. So the "freely elected" government of Iraq declares Baghdad shut down and
.... we don't hear any news of that?

I wonder how much the U.S. government agents "helped" push the
black muslims into planning the "terrorist attacks?"

The Baghdad story is major news ..... where is it?

3. Story changes
First it was general rioting after a US firefight in the city. Then a "state of emergency". Then the government ministry denied the 'state of emergency declaration but not the "expanded" curfew. The BBC describes the riots. CNN had it nowhere to be seen.

You have to love news reporting. All the media in the Green Zone(or Kuwait) and you can't get a straight timely story of what is happening under their noses. Steve perry in talking as if the story IS being reported, puts it out as the US here provoking an ethnic clash in the city and thus civil war and thus a short circuiting or battle around the soon to be released Iraqi peace plan- that also is underreported in the 'news". Or the iraqis can use it against the occupation. Or just general chaos.

11. Yeah, with no explanation
One was quoting the prime Minsiter's Office and the other the Security branch. Now it makes sense that the one to call a state of emergency would be the chief executive but it means the secuirty guy probably has egg all over his face. No way the Bush proppers want to highlight that gaffe- if there was one, but AP apparently knows. Better to scrub than offend the Shrub.

But the story details are also becoming mixed in these stupid Readers' Digest summaries. And the more details that are added, the worse the reporting becomes.

9. 10 US Soldiers killed so far this week.
In fact, other sources say we've lost four or five soldiers today, so that number may be closer to 14 this week.

So far.

CNN's busy talking about Homegrown Terrorists who haven't killed or hurt anyone, by the way.
