Indiana resort evacuated after flashing beer ad is mistaken for bomb

PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- The beer ad attracted attention -- but not in the way Pabst Blue Ribbon had intended.

A bartender called police because he thought a blinking red light was a bomb, resulting in the evacuation of 35 people from a resort hotel.

Guests were allowed back in their rooms less than an hour later after a sheriff's officer determined the light was part of a Pabst Blue Ribbon ad. The ad was suction-cupped to the window of the Sam Snead restaurant in Swan Lake Resort.

But I strongly suspect that the only bombs with blinking lights have already been disarmed by Jack Bauer and James Bond.

I was trained by the Army Corps of Engineers in explosives and detonation. (First advanced degree was in chemistry!) And, i consulted on the decon of the Army Ammunition Plant in northeast IL. I've seen aerial bombs, mines, raw explosives, demolition charges, and missile warheads. They don't have flashy lights!

Some electronic triggers have them so that when armed they flash. That way you know the device is hot. But, those no flashy things!

If i saw a flashing sign, i would bet pretty strongly that it was not a bomb.
