White House Demands Dismissal of Spy Suit
White House Demands Dismissal of Spy Suit

By DAVID KRAVETS
The Associated Press
Friday, June 23, 2006; 4:32 AM

SAN FRANCISCO -- A lawsuit challenging the Bush administration's domestic spying program must be dismissed because it threatens to reveal state secrets and jeopardize the war on terror, the government says.

The case was set to go before a federal judge in San Francisco on Friday.

The Bush administration argues that the courts cannot decide the constitutionality of the president's asserted wartime powers to eavesdrop on Americans without warrants.

The government is invoking the so-called "state secrets privilege" in a federal lawsuit filed by a privacy group against communications giant AT&T Inc. about the telecom's alleged involvement in Bush's surveillance program adopted after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

1. There has GOT to be a way around this.
:grr: :grr: Otherwise, why even have a constitution, or call this a democracy?

3. this is no longer a democracy (not that it was in the first place)
It was a representive republic, but I digress...

its time to wake up and smell the fascism. America, as we knew it, is dead. We can either stand by and watch the casket drift by, or we can resurrect it, but we need to stop denying it has been murdered.

7. I wonder what it would take to make people realize it.
We know that America as we knew it is gone and has been replaced by a totalitarian regime, but how long will it be before the majority of the country realizes it? It's so ingrained in us as Americans to believe that it just can't happen that we won't know it until it's too late to speak out. This seriously scares the life out of me. I worry about it all the time. I can't just dismiss it as politics anymore. I find myself being thankful that I'm not a young person. I just don't understand the disconnect.

5. "the president's asserted wartime powers"
which are:

Whatever he wants to do, whenever and wherever and to whomever he wants.

Thank you, centrist gang!
