3. NBC: "The group was not prepared to carry out the attack on their own"
From Pete Williams.

There was an FBI informant as part of the group and they were ill-prepared to do anything but wanted to carry out some type of attack.

10. Always good to remember that Pete used to work for Dick Cheney
and with Scooter Libby

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Williams

<snip>

Prior to joining NBC, Williams served as a press official on Capitol Hill for many years. In 1986 he joined the Washington, DC staff of then Congressman Dick Cheney as press secretary and a legislative assistant. In 1989, when Cheney was named Secretary of Defense, Williams was appointed Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs. While in that position, Williams was named Government Communicator of the Year in 1991 by the National Association of Government Communicators.

5. Prediction
Three years later there will be a little story on page B6 of some low circulation country newspaper that these people were released for lack of evidence and the case is now closed. Just a prediction.

12. Wouldn't surprise me if the FBI mole LURED this group into wanting to
launch an attack.

Didn't that happen in a case in New York? FBI sorta pushing someone to want to carry out a bombing?

23. some of the reporters at the presser this morning asked about that
the answer was, I thought, ambiguous. Anyway, that's something they have to prove at trial--if there is one.

27. The first WTC attack...
From Wikipedia

Alleged FBI foreknowledge
In the course of the trial it was revealed that the FBI had an informant, an Egyptian man named Emad A. Salem, a former Egyptian army officer. Salem claims to have informed the FBI of the plot to bomb the towers as early as February 6, 1992. Salem's role as informant allowed the FBI to quickly pinpoint the conspirators out of the hundreds of possible suspects.

Salem, initially believing that this was to be a sting operation, claimed that the FBI's original plan was for Salem to supply the conspirators with a harmless powder instead of actual explosive to build their bomb, but that the FBI chose to use him for other purposes instead. <2> He secretly recorded hundreds of hours of telephone conversations with his FBI handlers, made during discussions held after the bombings. They are currrently in possession of the FBI.

In December 1993, James M. Fox, the head of the FBI's New York Office, denied that the FBI had any foreknowledge of the attacks.

6. Give me a BREAK
from http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/14882995.htm

"They said it was a karate school,'' Benjamin Williams, 17, said of the warehouse. ``They used to be out around 11 at night, practicing like they were in the military or something . . . push-ups, jumping jacks and jumping over chairs.''

Another neighbor said: ``They would be gone all day and come back at night to the warehouse to sleep. They sold shampoo and hair grease on the street.''

The fear campaign is now running in high gear:

"Can't trust the limp wristed cowardly Democrat party to keep us safe. But you can trust ole George and Dick!! There's a tarrist behind every bush (no pun intended), lurking with intentions to kill Murkins! Your only choice in November is to re-elect the GOP so we won't cut and run and fight 'em over there so we don't have to fight 'em over here!" :eyes:

9. NBC cannot get any more obvious in it's role.
They ARE, beyond a shadow of a doubt, a big part of the BushCo psyop operations on America. This report is part of the fear and terror operation. It will be used to justify a host of attacks on our dwindling civil rights.

21. So, should they ignore it? It's as good a news story as any.
Are we supposed to ignore FBI stings that we've always found fascinating since the beginning of time because it may somehow remotely make Bush look good?

That's asinine and makes this website look selfish - I don't like these posts.

28. I guess I'm not allowed to use common sense
Edited on Fri Jun-23-06 11:31 AM by Mr_Spock
I assume that you realize that to most folks who have only seen one large building(s)(filled with people) fall in their entire life, the possibility of another might be of interest to them. Unless you are a DU regular, in which case this has an entirely different meaning than for the majority of the population. It's a shame that I have to be insulted for simply pointing this out. I assume we know the intent of these people. If it's a farce, they will look worse in the long run - I can wait a few hours to hear some FACTS before I pass judgement :eyes:

29. I'm sick and tired of the media and average people and the gov't pushing
the 9/11 meme.

"The world changed after 9/11"

BULLSHIT!

NOTHING changed except for the way certain politicians look at US foreign policy and national security. Ideologies haven't changed. Threats haven't changed (well, they've probably worsened since the invasion of Iraq).

30. I'm sick and tired of the stupid meme myself
Believe me, I'm not condoning the attitude, I'm simply acknowledging the existence of it. People have the thoughts of that tragedy in the backs of their mind and this story feeds that fear. Just because we know better, doesn't mean that the general populace does, so I can't blame the networks for giving the story coverage today. I don't see why it would bother anybody, it's just the day after it was reported, I would expect it to have a life of more than a few hours. What if the allegations are true? We have to consider that as a possibility too - copy-cat crimes are very very common in history.

31. But that's exactly part of the reason why the average American buys the BS
The M$M keeps pushing this crap and the ever-increasing apathy level of Americans is fed by the force-feeding of sensationalism.

NBC (and anyone else pushing this story hard given the paucity of details and the utter lack of any type of real threat) is doing this country a huge disservice with this.

32. Won't be the first time...
...won't be the last. At least we get to enjoy the benefits when they inflate a story that we feel good about. I guess we have to take the good with the bad and our people have to learn to manipulate the mob-mentality media when necessary. This is politics, it's not a game of logic and fairness for sure, :D
