How does one debate shit that's made up?

For example when Cheney claims that Democrats "validate terrorist strategy" - how do you counter that? You know it's complete bullshit just like the swift boat liars, and Ken fucking Mehlman, etc...

I say that Bugs Bunny is a serial rapist on meth - now, prove me wrong.

1. A good reporter would ask him, "How did you come by that opinion?"
Edited on Thu Jun-22-06 05:58 PM by Cronus Protagonist
But we're in a dire shortage of real reporters...

5. ask for specific examples
they don't have them, and will change the subject.

Then you say, you changed the subject. Why won't you answer my question about examples of the Democrats validating terror satrategy. Which Democrat has done that?

Or say. That's merely rhetoric. You still haven't said what YOUR plan is to acheive peace in Iraq. Bush says he is leaving that job up to the next president. What will the next Republican President do in Iraq that is different?

7. Can't counter, but can ask to explain what it means exactly -
if we had news reporters or whatever the hell they are worth anything, they'd ask the necessary tough questions. Shit that's made up is torn down if challenged.

8. How about - "could you give an example of that?"
And keep asking it until he gives a comprehensive example. If he can.
Then show the "example" for what it is.

9. One effective tool is not to disagree but to ask them (RW) to
define their terms, e.g. "terrorist." Chances are they'll probably define that abstraction with further abstractions which you can ask them to define, never disagreeing and never agreeing. Pretty soon, the lunacy of the syllables they utter should silence them all on its own. If not, they're beyond hope and you should better spend your time trying to convert those still capable of being converted.

10. At work the other day, this winger ex-marine....
that was conducting this class I had to attend asserted that the US has the lowest unemployment rate of any country in the world. I nearly fell out of my chair. But wanting it to be over with fast, I said nothing.

I looked it up, there are 32 countries with lower rates of unemployment. 32!!!

12. Republicans want to Stay n Pay
Ask what is terrorist strategy? If they know so much about it, why have they not defeated this terrorist insurgency and now have more violence than ever? Does not sound like his strategy is working, so why not try something else? Something that might save some lives?

Doesn't sound like he knows about any strategy except Stay n Pay....

are running out of money for it. All the bluster just prolongs the misery for a little while longer.

15. It's harder than hell to debate with a liar,...that's for sure.
I'd say, "prove it,...prove it with some kind of scientific or reliable documentation". Then, I'd reply, "you can't do it,...you can't prove a ridiculous, vicious assertion like that,...and you know it! But, you make baseless assertions like that all the time. They're called intentional misrepresentations and/or lies, Mr. VP."

18. At some point, debate becomes pointless.
That's the beauty of this madness, they've hijacked our entire language and assigned new meaning to everything.

Iraq is the central front in the global war on terror. That statement is total fantasy and it makes fucking zero sense.

19. The person sitting across from
this kind of person who asks this kind of statement needs to call them on it immediately.

Cheney claims that Democrats "validate terrorist strategy"

Response: Oh really? In what way? Can you be more specific?

Too often I see Dem's in debate situations responding to an outrageous question or comment instead of tossing the ball back in the questioner's court.

Play a little offense instead of defense, Dems...

22. To expand...
The respondent has to say something like (and I picture this happening on a news talk show or something)...

"What the heck is that supposed to mean? Can you back up what you're saying with some facts?"

Person tries to answer...
Reframe it...

"Ok, so if I understand you correctly, you're saying someone like John Murtha or John Kerry (both war veterans) are validating the terrorist strategy? Is that what you're saying".

If they persist...

"Well, that's the most outrageous thing I've heard today...I don't even think you can really believe that".

Get the last word in and make them sound like they're off their rockers...

20. Faux Snooze calls the Iraqis TERRORISTS, MSNBC calls them
insurgents..... I would like to ask Faux Snooze one question. If we invaded Canada, and the Canadians fought back, and we sealed the border so no one could enter Canada. Would the Canadians then become instant terrorists, and would Faux Snooze still wave their banners and shake their pom poms if a Dem were in office??

We all know the answer to that, getting them to admit it would however be something of a problem.

21. Redirect to the mess at hand
It's like arguing with a drunk, you generally don't. You just keep pointing to the messes created and say, in the words of Richard Pryor - "whatcha gonna do".
