but but...AAR's rating are in the tank! The network will fold any minute!
They are out of money! They are losing all of their stations! Liberal radio can't work!

Congrats to Ms. Rhodes. I'm not a huge fan of hers but her success is a slap in the face to every asshole conservative who said liberal radio would fail.

But I have a feeling I know who you are refering too.... the same one who keep saying that AAR is going to close up shop any minute. A month ago he said they were going to lose WLIB (New York station).... but yet....what am i listening to right now? 1190 WLIB.

He has no contract now, and they can cancel him at will. And I doubt they will EVER offer him either a contract or even a decent rate of pay. They pay him the minimum Union rules will allow.

They simply do not believe that they can make any money in the time slot Mike works, and so, there is no motivation for them to replace him.

59. I thought I heard him say recently that he got $80,000 a year
or some such number in the high 5 figures (I also recall him saying he hoped to someday get into 6 figures). It was not clear if his producer/wife Kathy is paid a separate salary. Of course when you compare his salary with the typical RW talk show host, he receives rather little. Anybody know what the ballpark figure for Randi is now?

61. You know part of that is total bullshit.
I listen to the AAR stream online and they run his promos just as often as everyone else.

You never have anything good to say about AAR. And a lot of the stuff you say ends up being proven wrong.

Maybe the problem with Mike is that he's not turning in the ratings? Ever thought about that?

AnShell communications begat Central Air LLC begat Air America.

Mike was involved in AnShell from the beginning.

He is the one who suggested that Jon Sinton ought to run the show, having been asked to run it himself and having declined.

any AA programming except for Al Franken. You'd think that AA would try and carry Mike in Atlanta. :( I spoke with Mike back in February and he gave us the heads up about the upcoming 1160AM sale. Sure enough, Air Atlanta went off the air a few Sundays ago right in the middle of Radio Nation. It sucks big time. There is no liberal talk radio in Atlanta or NE GA. :( (NPR doesn't count.)

I LOVE laying in bed listening to Malloy until midnight...then off to sleep with a BIG SMILE on my face because he speaks for ME so well. I know when he fills in for Randi he calms down his schtick during the day. Malloy wouldn't be Malloy at 2:00 in the afternoon. It wouldn't be the same show. IMCPO.

He was still GREAT, but different. He didn't call anyone any of his CHOICE names he has for them.:) Does Limpballs use the same colorful language as Malloy? That's what I'm talking about.

46. Ah, my two favorites
I love Randi and Thom Hartmann is my all-time favorite. His knowledge of history and civics is awesome. He frames the issues so well and so logically. I wish he had a regular spot on AAR.

I love Mike Malloy too, but sometimes he sounds so much like what's going on in my head (bitching and complaining about the right-wing with a lot of bitterness) that I just don't feel the urge to listen to him that often. Randi makes me laugh and lightens me up and I really need that sometimes. Bounce Your Boobies on Friday afternoon just puts me right for the weekend. :bounce:

As Ben Burch said above, Mike doesn't have a contract with Air America; he's being paid the talk radio equivalent of the minimum wage, and he's not being promoted at all.

Very sad, really, when one angry liberal gets a primetime slot, and another gets buried late at night.

I sort of wish Randi would shave off an hour, so that Majority Report would be on from 6-9 and Malloy from 9-midnight.

Randi doesn't use the same adjectives as Malloy does. I think he likes his time slot for that reason. Actually, I think it's the perfect time slot for Malloy. The kids are in bed, mom and dad can grab a glass of wine and swim in the GLORY of Malloy's rants. I LOVE IT!

It saddens me to know he doesn't have a contract though.:( Is that his choice or AAR's choice? I don't think AAR advertises, do they? I know Malloy does commercials on AAR and so does Randi, but I thought I read they (AAR) don't do advertising?

45. I hear promos for MM show on AAR in the NYC area but ironically they
cancelled his live show in NYC. We now have the insipid Satellite Sisters instead. You would've thought NYC could handle a nightly rant from Malloy. I was shocked they took him off in this market. Now I've got to stream from 10 - 1. I can't go to sleep without my Malloy rant, its cleansing, he expresses the outrage I've been building up all day and he does it so well. He's the real Howard Beale in the AAR lineup. I'm upset to hear that they won't extend him a contract. That sucks. So does having to turn the station off from 9 am until three and go elsewhere when Springer and Al come on (although I sometimes listen to Al).

This is a good thing for both parties.

Randi is a great radio personality. She gets some piece of mind on her future.

AAR locks in a great talent for four years.

I was plenty po'd when AAR moved from Sirius to XM ... I bought all that equipment BECAUSE AAR was on Sirius and then 6 months later they were gone.

I've debated about selling off my stuff and buying an XM sub but discovered recently that you can now stream AAR via iTunes. YIPPEEE!

I'm a happy camper. And it's free. Don't even mind listening to the commercials either.

55. It's so Republican of O'Lieley to try and pull the rug out from under AAR
by discouraging advertising revenue instead of trying to compete fairly in the radio marketplace. :grr: He is such an ass. :(

57. don't like franken - wish malloy was on in that slot
lucked out a few weeks ago, though. they replaced springer with stephanie miller in
my market. what an improvement!

i liked springer to start with, his heart seems to be in the right place. i don't
think he has the background or knowledge to handle the task, though. he is way too
compassionate to the freeps. don't waste my compassion on those guys, sorry...
