20,000 Librarians converge on New Orleans
The first BIG Convention since Katrina starts in the Big Easy today. Librarians Gone Wild. I hope they spend lots of money. I was in the Quarter on Tuesday and it was a sad, lonely ghost town.

5. We are going to the quarter on Sunday
We went to the Tomato Festival and I had the intention of eating "World Famous" Fried Chicken at Fiorellas but I pigged out on fried green tomatoes and Shrimp at the Fest and I had no room left for chicken; so I'm gonna try it again Sunday. My wife has a very nice necklace with a Funky Butt "charm" hanging from it. Got it from a lady at the Farmer's Market www.OrleansExchange.com. We also got some funky butt coasters. We are just funky to the max. We are also looking forward to Satchmo Fest. You and I chatted about that last year before the Hurricane.

Ya gotta love those librarians. I hope they have a great time. I hope they spend a ton of money.

6. Wild Librarians!!!
A friend of mine and I went to THe Alamo this past March 6th. It was the first time I had ever been there on the anniversary of the battle
and was on my list of things to do before I die. The evening before,
while enjoying a few cocktails at the Menger Hotel, Tom and I got into a conversation with two Librarians from Ohio who were in town for a textbook convention. As the night wore on, we convinced these two out of staters that Tom and I were professional ghost busters who were going to be allowed inside the Alamo 30 minutes prior to the 5 am start
of the ceromonies to monitor the Alamo Chapel for ghost.....Somehow,
we kept straight faces during all this (might have been the Glen Levit
Scotch). Anyway, the next morning, at 4:30 am and in a pouring rain,
Tom and I are crossing the street to go to the Alamo....who calls out to us? The Librarians are following us across the street....wanting to
know if they could go into the Alamo with us and watch us monitor
for ghost.....They were pretty disappointed when we fessed up.....

4. One of my best friends is there! She's a really cool librarian.
She's been to ALA conventions there in NOLA in the past. She had a great time and was really looking forward to this convention! Librarians fight censorship! Gotta love librarians!

7. The New Orleans story continues to get bizarre
The Governor, at the Mayor's request, has sent in National Guardsmen and State Police to help in crime control. Although we are going back this weekend, the crime issue crosses my mind at such decisions. Last Saturday five "kids" were shot in broad daylight with machine guns. Drugs and turf wars, fortunately far from the corner, but the element does slip in at night to peddle their wares. There is a curfew now for teenagers, but if you are an armed drug trafficer would you honor a curfew? Those "locals" have come back but may add to the ruination of the cities economy. I hope the Librarians have a productive and safe visit.

I'm looking forward to "World Famous" Fried Chicken at Fiorella's on Decatur Street Sunday Afternoon. Godawful hot whether here. Our yard looks like crap.

8. Yikes! I hope the librarians have a safe visit.
I read about the shootings the other day. Machine guns? :scared: (Thanks NRA):sarcasm:

The "World Famous Fried Chicken" sounds yummy! It's godawful hot here too. Dry, dusty and like an oven. My horse's pasture is very dusty. I'm hoping for a thunderstorm tomorrow afternoon. We need it. It hasn't rained in weeks. My potted gardenia wilted the other day. It's in the shade and usually gets plenty of rain water but this year I've had to water the patio garden plants.

Take care, keep cool and be safe! :hi:

9. Machine guns have been restricted since 1934...
Edited on Fri Jun-23-06 02:03 PM by benEzra
so if that statement is accurate, the NRA had nothing to do with it, since they supported the law that placed them under strict controls...72 years ago. (Title 2/Class III provisions of the National Firearms Act.)

If it's the same incident I'm thinking about, I think the murders were committed with plain old pistols, not machineguns, although the MSM is generally pretty clueless on the subject.
