Outrageous! Ft. Sam Houston Strapped for $$ - Troops Suffer
Edited on Thu Jun-22-06 11:51 AM by sparosnare
How, when we give so much damn money to the Pentagon, can they allow services for troops to be cut? It makes no sense to me, and it pisses me off because those feeling the effects are our troops - those who need this stuff right now. Please read the entire article, what's happening here will be repeated all over the country.

Who supports the troops???? Not our government, not the Pentagon. :grr:

Fort Sam Must Cut Its Services

Strapped for cash, Fort Sam Houston is moving to cut an array of services ranging from lawn care and mail delivery to the post's shuttle bus for GIs.

At least one service, a satellite office that issues ID cards for those using Brooke Army Medical Center, will be eliminated Friday. All the other changes will occur Monday and are so sweeping that even Army lawyers and chaplains are affected.

"I agree this is tremendously difficult and it's a burden for soldiers, and there's no other way to look at it," said Col. Wendy Martinson, Fort Sam's garrison commander. "There will be times during this when soldiers will definitely feel we're not supporting them appropriately, and they would be right."

The cuts are coming in the wake of President Bush signing a $94.5 billion supplemental appropriations bill that will funnel $722 million to the Army Installation Management Agency. The agency, called IMA, has distributed the money to posts around the world but still has a $530 million deficit — forcing Fort Sam, which has 27,000 military and civilian workers, to make deep service cuts.

4. They're just not important apparently.
It simply boggles my mind that an extraordinary amount of our tax dollars goes to defense spending, yet this happens. Guess it should be expected though when the Pentagon keeps such shitty records that they "misplace" billions.....

7. Yep - can't pay their electric bill.
I live here in San Antonio, and they've been talking about it for awhile now; CPS (electric) has been threatening to cut power. This sort of thing should not happen.

8. Given the size of the deficit there is only 1 explanation
530 million is NOTHING in a multi Trillion dollar budget with a 500 billion dollar deficit. The Pukes simply DO NOT CARE about our soldiers. I guess the IMA should have hired Abrahamoff to lobby for them (sarcasm, of course they can't hire lobbyists 'cause they are a government agency).
