BREAKING: MD GOV RACE DOUG DUNCAN (D) OUT, OMALLEY LEFT TO BATTLE EHRLICH

From: http://collegedemsofmd.blogspot.com/

BREAKING...

DOUG DUNCAN IS DROPPING OUT OF THE MARYLAND GUBANATORIAL RACE. MAYOR MARTIN O'MALLEY (D) WILL NO LONGER BE OPPOSED IN THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY TO FACE OFF WITH REPUBLICAN INCUMBANT GOVERNOR ROBERT EHRLICH THIS FALL.

DUNCAN IS CITING MENTAL HEALTH REASONS FOR HIS EXIT OF THE RACE...

This changes everything for the Fall in Maryland. O'Malley will not have to spend money fighting Duncan in a primary any longer. Ehrlich will have less money to spread around to other GOP candidates for the state legislature....

1. That's good. I have a lot of family in Maryland, mostly Republican...
and even they like O'Malley. Now that he's got proper funding, he should be a great candidate.

WBAL-TV 11 News has confirmed that Montgomery County executive Doug Duncan is dropping out of the race for governor.

11 News said an announcement is expected at 2 p.m. in Rockville. WBAL-TV has learned from three different sources that Duncan is dropping out because of health reasons.

Duncan's announcement will be available online on TheWBALChannel.com when it starts. We will have more information as it becomes available.

3. Having a primary opponent is not a bad thing
If anything it helps to build your name recognition across the state especially if you're a big city mayor like O'Malley.

Governor Ed Rendell of PA survived a very expensive $30mil primary race against son of former PA GOvernor, Bob Casey Jr. Rendell started out as the underdog and overwhelmingly powerhoused Casey in the primaries mainly from the high voter turnout in the Philadelphia metro area for their former mayor.

I think it's a horrible assumption that Primaries serve no purpose. If anything Primaries start to build exposure for all candidates and create momentum for the final election.

That being said - I'm glad that it's O'Malley - I really like the guy!

6. I wonder if this might be due to the Abramoff money
that Duncan accepted.

But if he is suffering from clinical depression, then he has my sympathy and best wishes. I've been through it.
