Bush Approval Jumps 5 Points (Zogby)

President Bush's job approval numbers "have jumped significantly to 36%, as a nation hungry for good news out of Iraq was finally served a morsel," according to a new Zogby poll. It's a five point jump from the last poll two weeks ago.

"Still, with 64% giving Bush a negative job rating, the numbers underscore that the White House still struggles with anemic support that could undermine his authority on Capitol Hill at a time when congressional lawmakers begin serious negotiations on several issues, including an immigration reform bill."

But that 5 points are still the rank-and-file, not the fence sitters or disatisfied members of the populace. So, it may be important to him, in the sense that his own supporters are more pleased this week than a couple of weeks ago, it doesn't change the fact that most people are still disatisfied.

this is basically due to some Republicans and others shifting back to support column. It's not a widespread swing among those in the middle.

12. It's possible that Bush has hit bottom...

...and might start going a little higher, finding some stability in the 40s. I don't *want* this to be true--like everyone else, I'd like to see him go down to -12 or so...but nature abhors a vacuum, and having an incumbent President around 30% or so, with three years left in his term, just isn't tenable. Either he'll stabilize a little above where he is, or there's another war/terror attack, in which case, hell be up and down the landscape the rest of his term, of else something really bad comes out and he collapses, maybe like Nixon...I'd prefer #3m of course, but I suspect #1 is likeliest...
