WSJ editor: Gay marriage could lead to marrying snakes...

VIDEO:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZenhQlJp24&eurl=

HENNINGER: This is a footnote to our gay marriage discussion: A woman in India last week married a snake. I would like to ask the proponents of gay marriage--which violates, after all, traditions going back through all of human history--to now absolutely, positively guarantee that the next movement is not going to be allowing people to marry their pet horse, dog or cat. And you know What? Given the "anything goes" culture we live in, I don't think they can deliver that guarantee.

1. What is this Republican fascination with beastiality?
Box turtles, mules, sheep, snakes -- it's as though they're saying that the law against marrying an animal is all that is keeping them from fucking animals.

It's a bit more insight into their fetishes than *I* personally needed...

15. It is a propaganda technique
He frames the argument wrongly from the outset: "proponents of gay marriage" Wrong because the issue isn't whether people need his f'ing permission to get married; it is whether and what the criteria is for marriages to be legally recognized. He is claiming power he doesn't have eg. the power to deny 2 people's right to marry. People can get married right now. They can exchange vows and live monogamously whether it is okay with him or not. The only issue is whether the State is going to continue to deny its legal support to certain monogamous relationships.

He then implies via the snake reference that gay people are lower than human beings. He seeks to de-humanize a large group of people in order to deny them their rights. What a guy!

3. If gays are allowed to marry
I'm going to gouge my eyes out and have sex with squirrels in the trees behind my house. There are many fundies in my neighborhood so no one will consider my actions out of the ordinary.

6. Somebody needs to remind the dumbfuck that CONSENT
is a part of entering into any legal contract, including marriage.

Marriage to animals will be legal as soon as animals can consent verbally and write their names on the marriage certificate.

don't they know that people are laughing at them when they bring up this stupid bestiality angle?

Similar "logic" -- if men are allowed to marry women, what's to stop 'em from marrying baby girls? HUH??? WELL??? I demand you explain this now!

14. What a disgusting thing to say.
To equate gay marriage and bestiality is so horrible. They know better (informed consent, etc.), they're talking to the lowest common denominator out there. They realize the mentality of the of the audience. Its hate speech and should be condemned. But we won't hear a peep.

18. incorrect argument
The problem with this argument as a matter of fact is that gays aren't allowed to marry in India. In fact, Homosexuallity is illegal there and through out much of south Asia.

cf

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_marriage

By his argument, if we DON't allow for civil union or gays to get married then we could wind up like India where women are marrying snakes.

19. Idiot
"I would like to ask the proponents of gay marriage--which violates, after all, traditions going back through all of human history--"

Oh really? No exeptions? He needs to go study some more. Lets see,
Here is an interesting older article. Sounds like a good place to start. If I looked on the net for maybe oh,a half hour I bet I would find a solid history of same sex unions going as far back as history allows. Anthropology or sociology research would no doubt turn up some gems. And as always, religious study is usually full chock full of suprises.

25. Q: This "sanctity of marriage" thing......
What is it good for? The "right" to be a hatin'homophobe ? Geesh.

The kids? Right? Of course, children do grown up healthier and happier with two loving *adults* raising them. Even Hillary wrote that it takes a VILLAGE too! I know many have grown up with one loving adult, due to widow(er)hood or divorce.

Then, I see the Angelina/Anderson interview....she plans to adopt a whole UN houseful of children, and no plans to ever marry Brad, but he's still legally DAD!?

Can my brain get any more fried on GOP brainfarts ? The Marriage Amendment is a "hate bill", pure and simple.

absolutely, positively, that the next movement is not going to be allowing people to marry their pet horse, dog or cat.

I'll also guarantee Ann Coulter that sandwiches wrapped in plastic and taken to school for lunch are dumped in a landfill and are therefore, garbage, and not some liberal "religious" plan to lie to children in public schools about the environment.

:sarcasm:

JERUSALEM - Sharon Tendler met Cindy 15 years ago. She said it was love at first sight. This week she finally took the plunge and proposed. The lucky "guy" plunged right back.

In a modest ceremony at Dolphin Reef in the southern Israeli port of Eilat, Tendler, a 41-year-old British citizen, apparently became the world's first person to "marry" a dolphin.

Dressed in a white dress, a veil and pink flowers in her hair, Tendler got down on one knee on the dock and gave Cindy a kiss. And a piece of herring.

Now when are our fine, upstanding moral guardians, like Santorectum :sarcasm: , going to speak out against man- (or woman-) on-dolphin sex? :P

36. Considering "God" set up marriage to be permanent . . .
Shouldn't this guy be more upset about all the oath-breaking going on in the Straight community? I mean, 1 woman out of 6 BILLION marries a snake, but more than 50% of couples cheat on each other and betray their vows they made before God and the church. And WHICH is the bigger problem . . .
