The conflict between what your rational brain says is true (that there were hijinx in the last two elections) and what you see around you (no one acknowledging that truth!) is very, very difficult to bear. It's not hopelessness OR apathy.

When faced with cognitive dissonace, people are driven to find a way to resolve it. Not thinking is one solution -- thinking obsessively and finding like-minded people on the internet is another!
