In honor of Bush's visit to Europe, a pic intensive thread...
What we LOST.

All pics are the reactions to 9/11:

European HQ.

American Consulate, Toronto.

Consulate in Sydney.

American Embassy in Beijing.

This is in Manila, Phillippines.

This is the Embassy in Cyprus.

Embassy in Oslo, Norway.

Embassy in Tokyo, Japan.

France.

Kremlin, Moscow, Russia.

New Zealand.

Palestinians in East Jerusalem.

Rome, Italy.

Albania.

Croatia.

These pics don't cover even a fraction of the sympathy that the United States had after 9/11, from moments of silence, to protests, to vigils, all for US. Look at what Bush squandered due to his actions, look to what he did NOW, and see what an ASSHOLE he is! I could say I have no words, but I do, much stronger ones than would be considered decent, but I leave that to others.

1. I went to Canada in November 2001 for a hockey game
half the people in Vancouver BC were wearing American flags on their backpacks, etc.. When they played our national anthem, the Canadians all stood up, they all sang, and when they got to the lines "land of the free" they started cheering like crazy and many of them waved the American flags. I still tear up remembering.

4. amazing isn't it. You know the blivet has to know what he has done
and he has to think about it when he is trying to sleep. My hunch is he goes to bed at night shit faced, so wasted that he passes out. and after about 5 hours or so of sleep he is back up and working on that buss for yet another day and night cycle. He is to be feared, really feared.

5. Look at this! He squandered all this love that came
our way during that horrible time. Now he accuses the world of apathy. What a creep! He should look in the mirror.

6. Brings tears to my eyes
Remembering all the sympathy that we were given by every nation in the world and look where we are right now. I also remember a picture of Iranians too showing their sympathy.

How freaking sad at how far he has taking us. Thanks for the reminder.

12. Yes, the Iranian candlelight vigils always stuck in my mind,
Now, they are fearful of being attacked by those who they lit candles for......Unreal!

8. President Gore would not have squandered this
He would have convened an international summit and the world might have entered an unprecedented period of unity, turning away from violence, etc. There are tears in heaven for the opportunity our world missed thanks to that selfish bastard in the WH.

9. And the Shrub says this today (to paraphrase)...
"Sept the 11th was just a moment for Europe...it was a change for America"

In response to a comment about how many people in the rest of the world hate us.

Mission Accomplished

11. These pictures make me cry -

we had world-wide sympathy and support. Five years later, we're universally hated.
I'd just come back from Ireland on 9/10 & several friends were still there. While they were freaked out at not being able to get home, tbey all talked about how every single person they met had words of sympathy and solidarity. I think the attitude right after 9/11 was "we are all Americans".

There's so much I can't forgive about this administration - losing the world's support is way up there.

13. The Masai gave us 14 cows.
They found out about 6 months after it happened, and sent New York City 14 cows.

I posted the story on the old DU shortly after it happened because someone was complaining about all the bad news.

I've lost the link to the old DU.

Its comforting to know that the rest of the world backed us for a short period of time, its too sad that everything slipped backwards after.

17. Thanks so much Solon for your thoughtfulness.
It's chilling and demoralizing to realize how much our country has lost because of Bush and his gang of hoodlums since 9/11. Not just the respect and empathy of other countries in the world, but some of our finest young men and women, God only knows how many innocent people, the trust of our own people ... it just goes on and on and on.

He is absolutely disgusting, and I am never suprised each and every time he sinks us to a new low.

21. that's a nice reminder of how sympathetic everyone was
I really don't understand the * admins's endless pursuit of a false conception of what democracy really means. I bet the founders would not be pleased.
