Graph of US public opinion during WW2
Found this over at talkingpointsmemo.com. It would be interesting to do a combined graph of US support for the WW2 effort vs. support for the Iraq war.

2. That graph should make Tony Snow eat his shoe.
Tony Snow:

"The president understands people's impatience -- not impatience but how a war can wear on a nation," Mr. Snow said on CNN. "He understands that. If somebody had taken a poll in the Battle of the Bulge, I dare say people would have said, 'Wow, my goodness, what are we doing here?' But you cannot conduct a war based on polls."

3. Yeah, that was Josh's point too!
FDR's job approval was between 70-80% during the entire war, and the "are we winning" was 75% when we landed in North Africa and went straight up past 90% as the war went on.

Now compare that to the similar numbers for Bush's War.

4. It should
but Tony Snow will do what all Fox News and Repuke yappers (I know they're the same thing)do and claim they never said what they said. Hell, you could show him a tape of him saying it and he'd look at you with those dead eyes and deny it to your face.

6. I said "last throes" but didn't mean "last throes"...
Cheney was asked about his "last throes" comment a few days ago, and he said he didn't mean that we were almost done (that is, he didn't mean that the insurgency was in its last throes), but (IIRC) that we were just entering the phase when the Iraqis would be doing most of the fighting.

Or Rumsfeld being reminded of his "we know where they are" quote, and he said, "I did not say that. I said there were suspect sites."
