Iraq: US may be asked to leave
THE level of violence in some areas of Iraq is worsening dramatically and US forces may soon be asked to leave by the Iraqi Government.

In an exclusive interview with The Australian, former US deputy secretary of state Richard Armitage has given a gloomy assessment of the situation.

"The British used to make a big deal of walking around in their berets in the south," he said. "Now they won't even go to the latrines without their helmets. The south has got much rougher, it's mainly Shia on Shia violence."

Mr Armitage said much of the violence came from differences over how the Islamic religion should be interpreted.

And he said he believed the Iraqis would soon ask the US to leave their country.

1. Heh, heh. I'd LOVE to see how bushyboy and them would "spin" THAT!
Not to mention the loud booming noise that we'd hear when the freepers imploded.

9. I think the freepers would love it. It's the excuse they need.
The Repugs would spin it as victory and many of the sheeple would buy it. "Victory! They won the war and brought the boy home!"

Then they would proceed to argue vehemently about how Iraq and the world were now much better off than before the invasion and occupation. No amount of contrary evidence would phase them. It would be a huge political windfall for the Repugs.

25. Uh OK. The British were stuck in Iraq for forty years.
Let's see, new U.S. Embassy the size of Vatican City, 12 new permanent military bases that 50 000 American soldiers will be permanently stationed in, the lions share of the worlds crude oil deposits, not to mention that this Administration just flies out there with no notice and starts bossing their leaders around, like they just flew from DC to Houston.

Yeah. I can see them leaving real soon. They came to control Middle East oil, and they won't be going until it is all used up.

2. Oh my.....this could be very bad for troops....
Will the * Cabal turn our troops against the newly elected Iraqi government. There is no way the cabal can salvage this.....they should just pull the troops out now.....and save our soldiers lives....

4. The Iraqis are gonna ask us to leave!?!?
Sounds like there'll be a bit more regime-change in the next few months. Nobody tells us what to do! Particularly when we've already picked out the spot for our $600 million summer palace.

5. "differences over how the Islamic religion should be interpreted"
You cannot fight or kill that s**t.

You cannot change their minds.

You cannot 'win'.

No way.

7. All it would take is for al Sistani to issue a statement.
He could call for the US/UK Occupation to end within a month and the Occupiers would have to leave.

What about all that oil? I betcha if the current Iraq government asks the "Coalition" to leave, they will find themselves the victims of another coup.

17. Yeah - that's one way to get out without * losing face
tell the sheeple they "made" us leave. * and the boys wouldn't leave unless they WANTED to leave, and if they wanted to leave, well, something like this would be perfect.

Then of course, we could move right on to the next country on our schedule, so much democracy to spread, so little time....

18. Hmmm? With that being a Murdock paper
you could be right, with the election and all coming up and the party in the shi-ter. Can't have those damn dems calling for investigations and wanting documents and stuff. I figure the shredders are working overtime (smokin') at the White House. And the media is explaining to the people that those voting machines can easily be rigged. The plot (pot) is thickening me thinks (hope).

14. Saddam led a secular government and gave religious freedom to all.
He ruled with an iron hand and now we understand why. It's a miracle that he was able to keep the country as stable as it was. I bet Saddam is looking better to many Iraqis every day.
