HURRICANE PETS STILL SEEKING THEIR OWNERS.
A group of international volunteers has been working tirelessly to get the animals rescued after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita back to their people. Using any means available, an expired rabies tag, a water-logged collar, sometimes just a few misspelled details, they have been searching the web for phone numbers, scanning maps for addresses, and even enlisting people on the ground to put up posters and knock on doors. Yes, there have been many happy-endings, but many more animals may be adopted out to new homes before their people have had a chance to find them.

Stealth Volunteers (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stealthvolunteers/) have pooled their resources and bought ad space in the New Orleans Times-Picayune newspaper with listings of many of these pets. An 800 phone number has been secured for people to call if they don't see their pet but are still looking and need help. The ad will run from Friday 12/30 through Sunday 1/1 in the printed paper and longer online.

Tell your friends and family members who know Hurricane survivors looking for their pets to get the paper or call the 800 number. Thanks!

5. Time's running out for these guys...
and the system can be incredibly hard for people to navigate. That's in addition to being displaced, in new towns, without access to the net, libraries with internet access closed or very limited hours, and having to deal with countless post-hurricane issues. This ad can be re-printed, copied out and distributed all over and the 800 number will be manned by people who have become experts at finding lost pets.

Kickin my own thread... can I do that?!?
;-)

11. Ad extended through 1/3/06
Mix up with art department, ad printed with tiny type, so Times-Picayune will extend the running time 'til Tuesday! One pet/caretaker reunion pending already as a result of ad running! It's apparently hard to find online but I'll post a link later when I have time to find it!

Thank you everyone and keep spreading the word! :applause:
