An idea I got after the Washington State Ferry system announced
huge price hikes coming this Fall:
A windfall profit tax on the big oil companies with all the revenue generated being given to the mass transit in every city, in every state. This would aide Americans much better than any $100 'rebate'!

Our bus system just announced another rate hike too. (TriMet) It'll be the third one in less than 2 years. :(

3. Devil's advocate position here
Not everyone lives in a city.

You could make the argument that rural Americans are disproportionately affected by higher fuel prices and be 100% right.

However, a longer view may result in lower fuel costs across the board for everyone because of decreased demand.

Just thinking out loud here.
