"Has anyone ever *heard* of Rachel Maddow?". Umm... yup.
And I think at this point she's the class of the AAR lineup.

Pleasure to listen to her in drive-time. Not only is she knowlegable; she seems to know and understand the medium ( radio), in a way that the others really don't.

She's hugely opinionated, mammothly ideological yet never fails to entertain. Funny as hell, actually. Plus good pacing and a voice smooth as glass.

Attention certain other AAR hosts: I can understand the desire to rant but most people can not listen to that hour after hour. Lighten-up , Randi; slow down and take a deep breath, Sam; get organized, Al ( or get Kathryn back to keep your 'inventory' in order).

I'm assuming, perhaps wrongly, that Maddow's talents are reflected in the ratings. Can anyone edify me on this point.

And , no, I'm not Rachel's mother... nor do I have any other connection to her.

1. I agree--I missed the Morning Sedition guys at first, but she IS smooth,
and entertaining, does a good job.

I also agree (many DUers do not) that some of the other shows are too strident in tone for my tastes. Not that I disagree, but, stylistically, the tone of it is like much of what I don't like in RW radio, anger, stridency, even if anger is an appropriate emotion.

At least in the case of Randi, I think she indulges stories like those from capitolhillblue.com etc. too much, or the Enquirer story about Bush drinking... without corroboration I don't see how this is helpful.

7. Truly. Some day I'm going to log her show to see....

how many times in a typical hour Randi repeats " it's amazing", "it's incredible" or the ever, ever popular " it's unbeLIEvable"?

She should consider scheduling guests... either in studio or on the phone... more frequently than she does. It would break up the monotony. She's well read and a good analyst. But she could be so much more with some high quality professional ( radio) production input.

2. I love Randi, but I think Rachel's my fave too.
She has just the right touch. Not too fierce, but no pushover either..

3. She is incrediblely sharp, and has the medium down,
great voice, timing.

really professional, and VERY progressive.

She's a talent to watch - may be more so, she mentioned the other
day about ' running for office' - she has a PHD in political science
(Oxford) and lives in western mass. - among the most progressive areas
in the country along with Boston/Cambridge.

I think she should run for office.

11. When her morning show was replaced by Jerry Springer,
Edited on Sat Jun-17-06 09:20 PM by rocknation
I said she should be added to the Morning Sedition team because her gravitas would balance out its hilarity. I knew even then she was the right person for the job! And by the way, Rush, "Maddow" should be pronounced to rhyme with "shadow"!

16. Do his TV viewers listen to AAR...
'cause Springer's there? I doubt it.

Besides, I don't know which is more embarrassing: the crass cynicism of the TV Jerry, or the leaden, trite, mealy mouth Jerry of AAR.

Two Jerry's is two too many for me.

17. I podcast her show. Never miss it.
I don't think it will be long before she has her own show on one of the cable news networks.

And Kent Jones is great, too.

18. Who would pick her up?
Certainly not Faux, or CNN. Maybe she could take over gravel-girl Rita's spot.
