Remember story of man detained for acting differently around Cheney?
Edited on Sat Jun-17-06 07:52 PM by peacebird
I wrote the reporter and she has replied asking if my letter can be published. Below is her email followed by my initial letter.

May we publish your letter?
Sincerely,
Nicole

Hi -
It might be more useful if reporters actually attempted to provide
information - such as what - precisely - is "acting differently"? And
did his behaviour threaten Cheney in any way? What is acting
"different" than others - scowling instead of cheering? Cheering
instead of scowling? Perhaps in a follow up you can actually report
the story? By which I mean reporting FACTS not just adjectives?
thanks -
Marianne

1. Peacebird. You and I are of a similiar feather on this.
I can't stand it when the obvious questions in a story go unanswered much less
unasked.
Are journalism schools just admitting A.D.D. folks?
Where are the curious reporters?

10. Where are all the curious reporters?
Uh, they were all acting weird around Cheney and had to go Bye-Bye...

"A.D.D. folks"...
-Will have a tendency to ask more explicit questions and gather more, and more extraneous, information than most.

They tend to be so very apart from 'social etiquette' that they will often ask people very inappropriate things simply to satisfy their personal curiosity.

Yours is an understandable, yet misplaced apprehension.

16. Ain't no thing...
I've worked with a few kids... and they are anything but complicit. Sometimes I wonder about myself... and many others around here.

5. Yes, I would like the definition of "acting differently".
We all need to know how we are supposed to be acting these days so as to avoid charges.

Evidently "acting differently" can have your ass up the river these days.

Everyone must act the same so as to prevent paranoia amongst Our Royalty.

8. when I replied I asked if perhaps she had more information yet
and could let her readers know what had actually happened.

Who knows - we'll see.... But somehow I just expect MORE from reporters. Ask questions, see the holes in the story and press for more information... You all know what I mean - I wish reporters had a little intellectual curiousity and were willing to do some investigative journalism....

11. Good point. When talking about someone who got arrested,
a reporter should tell us what that person specifically did.

very funny from an old Barbra Streisand movie, "What's Up Doc?"
