They gave Rove a shotgun? What does that mean?
So, does that mean Rover can't weasel out off any hunting invites to the ranch of many tales? Can't pull the ol darn, I'd love to go, but I don't have a bird slaying device excuse?

Talk to the man with a shotgun in his hand?

WASHINGTON - The owner of the South Texas ranch where Vice President
Dick Cheney accidentally shot a hunting companion chipped in on the gift of a shotgun for presidential aide Karl Rove last year.

...

Among the others who teamed to give the pricey gift, most of them prominent Texas Republicans from Rove's former hometown of Austin, were Mark McKinnon, the chief media strategist for Bush's two presidential campaigns, and Ernie Angelo, a former Republican national committeeman from Midland.

The only detail provided by White House spokesman Ken Lisaius was that the shotgun was a gift to Rove from friends.

Armstrong was chosen by Cheney to release the first word about the February hunting accident and was instrumental in how the story of Cheney's wounding of attorney Harry Whittington came out. Armstrong said Whittington made mistakes that led to the accident during a quail hunt on her ranch, when Cheney later took all the blame, and that there was no drinking, when Cheney acknowledged later he had had one beer several hours before the afternoon hunt.

Not being up on any Texas Mob lore and customs, would appreciate any insight regarding local cultural traditions and such ;)

But, since they know Rover has a gun, they can invite him out for a little fresh air? Sweet!

9. Made his bones - killed the 04 election -& a made man gets a gun gift?
What is so hard to understand about mob tradition?

The rich and corporate criminal Enterprise called the GOP has its traditions.

Perhaps it is time for an opposites day action flick to be made about crook that takes from the poor to give to the rich via corrupt elections and right wing judges that see no reason to restore the former rule of the Constitution. We only need cast the Robin Hood/Bush character and the Friar Tuck/Rove character, to play against the Prince John/(Feingold- Hillary) and the now honest sheriff of Nottingham/Murtha character and we have a hit on our hands bigger than any Keyser Soze/Usual Suspects remake.

Sets of golf clubs, country club memberships, resort stays, you name it.

Depending on one's standing and significance, some 'gifts' can be absolutely mind-boggling.

How about a fishing trip to the Bahamas on the 'Silver Queen' out of Duck Key, FL (both owned by KBR)?

Yep, I know about how the rich and famous like to bestow trinkets on their little pets, but do different gifts have significance attached? Ya, know, like the hidden language of flowers? ;)
