This has been a fuzzy week for me. Ms usnret88 crashed
her little motor scooter (49cc) last Sunday. She was in hosp ICU for two days, then a less critical ward the rest of the week. Saturday (17th) she will be moved to a rehab hosp to begin therapy. The poor thing has multiple injuries, but doesn't remember the accident at all. That's ok, because I was on my motorcycle riding behind her and saw it all - in slow motion - and see it over and over when I close my eyes, and sometimes I don't need to close them. Our two grown daughters and my three fur kids have saved my sanity as we have been going to and from the hosp. Have been coming home about midnight and reading the new posts, then doing housework - there is not a dirty stitch of clothes in the house, and I think some items may have been washed more than once - and then going back to the hosp. I think now as she begins to heal so can I. On the plus side, the grandchildren were surprised to discover I have a tender side.

The neurologist told me Monday that if she had not been wearing her helmet that there would have been no prognosis to discuss - so wear your helmets, DUers, if you ride.

Thanks for being my link to reality this week. And now, on to some much needed housework - I'm sure I can find a garment somewhere that has only been washed once or twice.

4. Best wishes to you and Ms usnret88.
"They also serve who only stand and wait." You're in the horrible 'stand and wait' phase now. Its the worst part. My thoughts are with you.

7. Wow! That is a tough row to hoe..
I'm glad you have your kids nearby to help out. I had to nurse mr banana through the aftermath of a bad car accident in '03, so I know how completely it takes over your life.

Thoughts & Prayers to you and Ms usnret88 for her complete recovery.

13. Best wishes; and I wish the Steelers guy
would have heeded your warning. He's damn lucky; and it just isn't fair that your wife WAS wearing her helment and still got hurt so badly. I am glad she is going to be ok. Please take some time to try and center yourself; I know it was horrible to witness that.
My thoughts are with you--(coming from someone who lost her finace in a motorcycle wreck)

14. Sat night update, and thanks for all your support. We moved wife
to rehab hosp today before noon. By the time we got her the evening meal, she had been sitting up in a chair for the longest period thus far. She ate more for dinner than any other meal thus far. I saw more doctors and nurses in this one day than I did any other single day except for last Sun when she arrived in the trauma unit, and this felt good. Staff members put their arms around my shoulders and asked how I was doing, and that felt good. Was told more than once that from their initial assessment there is an outstanding prognosis - perhaps not returnable to 100%, but real close. Wife looked me directly in the eye once and said with complete clarity "This must be very hard on you" and that was very sweet.

Thank you all, my new friends.

18. Thanks for the update usnret88!
I'm glad she's responding so well. (And that she seems so "on the ball"!) I know it's got to be tough on you, so check in from time to time as she progresses. These things seem to take forever!
