Colbert must support Lieberman NOW!!!
Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 05:02 PM by jsamuel

Colbert must support Lieberman now! It appears that Lamont is actually a bear cub in real life!

This add is from Lieberman... IT IS INSANE!

From Kos:

I have a feeling Lieberman's bear cub ad is going to be a PR disaster for him. I can't wait for the CT columnists rip it to shreds. But here's Josh Marshall who hasn't taken any sides:

This has to be the most ridiculous ad I've ever seen. It's not even that it's mean. It's just too silly and stupid to believe. Does anyone really believe that Lieberman is in this fix because of Lowell Weicker? And pace Weicker, Lieberman and ad creator Carter Eskew, but even in Connecticut, Lowell Weicker has been out of the Senate for a really long time. I don't want to say he's ancient history. But he's sort of ancient history.

I mean, maybe the next ad will be on the Missile Gap or school busing. Or maybe Lamont's failure to bring the Patriots to Hartford.

I'm not sure I even have the heart to ask my Lieberman pals what's up with this. Lieberman's trying to show CT Dems he's not out of touch but he's showing them he's out of his mind.

Also, look at the screenshot above. Notice how the Weicker bear is all patched up and stuff? Weicker has just gone through hip replacement surgery, and this appears to be mocking him.

I'm not sure why Lieberman and his ad guy thought making fun of seniors who have tough surgeries was a good idea...

Update: Click here to view the ad.

And for background, this is a sequel to an ad Liberman ran in his race against Weicker. Same bear (minues the hip surgery bandages). The premise of that ad was that Weicker slept in and came out of his cage only during reelection years. It WAS very effective back in 1988. But that was a different world during a different time. Today, this ad is just ridiculous.

1. Anyone have any idea if these quotes are recent or old?
They are from Joe's site... If they are recent, then I am disappointed in Boxer and Reid...

US Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT) "Democrats stand with Joe Lieberman!"

US Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) “He has repeatedly led the fight against big oil companies that want to drill in the Artic, he has championed innovative alternative energy solutions and his bill to combat global warming is the most comprehensive that’s been proposed.”

US Senator Harry Reid: "Let me be clear: as the leader of the Democratic Party in the United States Senate, I need Joe to be re-elected. I can always count on Joe when our Party needs to stand up to the Republican Party. ...The United States needs his continued presence in the Senate, so we can work together for a better America."

US Senator Barbara Boxer "I have seen first hand Joe Lieberman's tireless work to protect our air, water, land and other precious resources."

4. I don't necessarily mind other D's praising Joe's work on environmental
issues, as I understand he's been fairly good on them.

But given Lieberman's constant ass-kissing of many of the Bush Administration's policies, Reid's quote is just flat out silly.

Find a better drug; something that won't make you act like a total fool.

3. Stoopid. Go with it, Joe. Or should I say, Zell? Colbert and bears:
Joe Lieberman is another Zell Miller coming down the pike. Oh, and in the pocket of the pharmaceutical and banking industries. Stephen will have something to say about a candidate using BEARS to advance his candidacy. . .
