"Marriage Is A Basic Civil Right" - Chief Justice Earl Warren
From Loving V Virginia 1967 -

"Marriage is one of the "basic civil rights of man," fundamental to our very existence and survival."

Marriage is not a privilege nor an entitlement.

It is a basic right.

That is the law of the land.

1. If conservatives had their way, interracial marriages would be illegal
by definition, they are conservative, and they want to preserve and roll back the clock to those days.

2. I just finished "Breakfast at Tiffany's"
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 06:40 PM by Sequoia
because I thought the movie was great. In the book Holly is rather blonde and said to "Fred" (not her brother) that everyone should marry who they wanted and if he wanted to marry Man-O-War (famous racehorse at the time, dad or grandfather to Sea Bisquit) she wouldn't mind.

Got to realize this was written back in 1942 or so. Wow! Also in the book there is no older woman either. I actually liked the movie better; it's not as sad.

5. Great movie!
Cat was the character that made it all work in the movie. I agree with you about the movie - it left you with a much better feeling than the book did.

3. Race Mixer!
First he made our precious little pure white girls sit in school beside big buck Negroes, then he let them marry white women. Pretty soon he'll want the gays to get the vote...
(Pure sarcasm, almost all verbatim from actual comments on Brown v. Board and Loving.)
