REID: PRESIDENT BUSH STILL MUST OFFER A STRATEGY FOR IRAQ

Wednesday, June 14, 2006 Washington, DC—Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid today issued the following statement on President Bush’s press conference on the war in Iraq. A fact check on President Bush is attached. “I’m glad the President went to Iraq. It’s good for our troops and the new Iraqi government. But in the fourth year of this war the American people are still waiting for the president to lay out a strategy that will stabilize Iraq, redeploy our troops, and refocus on threats that ...

Dean on GOPs Iraq Resolution Playbook: "The troops deserve more"

6/14/2006 4:42:00 PM WASHINGTON, June 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Tomorrow, House Republicans will begin a debate on a resolution concerning the Iraq War. Instead of holding the Bush Administration accountable for their ineptitude and demanding a real strategy for victory in Iraq, Republicans are planning to use the debate as a way to score political points. With GOP Representatives' credibility faltering, new Republican Leader John Boehner is encouraging GOP members of Congress to attack their oppon...

4. My thinking is that they will never win an elections if they continue
to be silent on the Iraq war, the erosions of our civil liberties, the deficit, the voting rights issue, and the upcoming war with Iran, etc, etc.

the majority. I don't believe for a minute that there wouldn't be a flurry of legislative opposition to the Bush agenda if we were in power. I've seen Democratic majorities in action. I doesn't take much imagination for me to imagine the possibilities of that.

It is an undeserved slap to paint our party as weak. The republican obstruction is historically unprecedented with their total disregard for democracy. The portrayal of their efforts in the media are slanted to reflect their numerical insignificance to the direction of the congressional agenda. No surprise that their opposition seems ineffective. But to paint the entire party with that brush just obscures the many efforts that have been made in opposition to the republican agenda by our Democrats.

little to accomplish in both houses, yet the Repugs have been in the minority for many years in both houses, and they have had successfully opposed many legislations, eg; the minimum wage. Of course I appretiate and understand your thinking on the subject, but I am not so forgiven on many issues that this opposition party has done in past five years.
