1. The whole thing will be rigged. Election reform is long past due
& we all should be marching in the streets. Until we do, get ready for more of the same and we deserve it.

3. Well, most of the country deserves it

Here in MA, we are TRUE blue. (Except for Govenor Mitt, but I think we might get a dem governor this time around)....

We have paper trails, here.

The Republicans on the national stage barely bother to stop here (unless they are fund-raising in the city with a few wealthy turn-coats.)

They know better.

17. Don't be so smug, my DH & had both our voter reg.'s just
disappear in the 2004 election. We are registered Dems & there was no reason for it to happen, but it did. Luckily I found out about the "computer glitch" in time to rectify the situation while checking on my newly registered sons, their voter regs went thru with no problem. They were registered as independents. There are all kinds of dirty tricks being played out & there is no one organization that is taking this on nationwide. We not only have 13,000 little elections playing out, but there are numerous little organizations trying to make headway on this. We are in dire need of combining those efforts & rallying support.

I am having a heck of a time just trying to figure out what I can do as one person to try to lend a hand, in whatever way I can. I am willing to do whatever I can & am very frustrated. If I feel like this, being as outraged as I am, is it any wonder we aren't hearing about this crucial issue in MSM & aren't being taken seriously!

5. They can only rig close elections, if Dems turn out in massive #'s
the repugs won't be able to steal election '06. Vote Democratic!

2. I say Dems get the House, not the Senate...
We'll probably fall one or two seats short in the Senate. But needing 15 seats in the House and with about twice that amount in play, I think we'll take over there.

4. I think the Senate is more doable than the House
why? because so many districts in recent years have been rigged to favor the GOP. However, if it is a truly rotten GOP year it could be done.

In the Senate we seem to be a lock in picking up Pennsylvania and Ohio, Montana, Rhode Island, Missouri are very doable. Virginia (with Jim Webb as the Dem candidate), TN, AZ and perhaps NV are possibilities/dark horses.

6. The Senate is too far out of reach of Democrats to sweep in one blow
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 05:32 PM by Selatius
It can be done over two election cycles, but it's a long shot to expect the Senate to flip by such a wide margin from 44 to 51 in favor of Democrats. 44 seats belong to Democrats. 1 is independent (Jim Jeffords, who is retiring and likely will be replaced by Sanders) The rest are Repubs.

Bernie Sanders is likely to win his seat in November, but he is an independent, so his seat wouldn't count to the 51 needed to gain a majority in the Senate. Democrats would need to win 7 seats and not 6 as a result. Bernie Sanders, in this case, actually made it harder for Democrats to win the Senate. The two-party system sucks.

9. but it can be done
for instance in 1986 Democrats gained six Senate seats to win back the Senate and in 2000 we gained five seats. Of course we'll need six seats this time (due to Cheney breaking a deadlock) so we need every one of our open and incumbent seats to win.

11. No, you need 7 seats, not 6
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 05:42 PM by Selatius
Take Bernie Sander's future seat out of the equation. You have 44, not 45 as a result. Add seven more and you get 51 seats in Democratic hands, 1 held by an independent democratic socialist, and the rest are held by Repubs. Winning only 6 means Cheney will break a tie every time.

I don't think 7 is possible. 4, 5, 6 is doable, but I think 7 is too far out there.

15. We currently have 44 Democrats plus Jeffords
If Sanders win, which is highly likely, and all of our incumbents win and we take all of our open seats we will still have 44 Dems plus Independent Sanders which will bring us up to the same 45 votes organizing Senate Democrats as we have today. Then we need six seats to get to 51. But I agree it's not easy but I do think it is more doable than the House.

7. Will they hold Bush accountable if they do?
Will they uphold our constitution and impeach Bush immediately?

...or will they instead pursue holding Iran accountable?

8. I just hope they will hold some real hearings (with subpoena
power) when they take back the House. Hearings on Iraq, the NSA Spying, etc., etc., etc.

10. We can and will win
One person at a time. Its happening now. Whats important is to make friends outside your usual circle and talk and share. Gentle persuasion. I've done in my office and outside my usual circle. Not by being an in your face "my religion or else" but by being gentle and nice.

On the other hand, for those freeper repugs, I dont mince words. If they want to yell, I yell louder. If they want to spout lies, I spout the truth. Dont let them get away with it -- ever

19. I totally agree. We have to make MSM follow this, we have to
shout it from the rooftops, march in the streets, whatever it takes. We aren't going to take anything back until we do & anybody who thinks anything is going to change in the House or the Senate is dreaming.

These power mongers don't give a flying fig about what they have done in 2000 or 2004. If you think because this is not a presidential election year anything is going to be handed to us, think again. Our votes are simply not being counted, they are being manipulated through & through, why oh why will they stop to let some dems get in power to put a stop to the power & money grab.

Sorry, my friends, you are in denial if you think we will gain anything. Get used to fascism, it appears to be taking root with little to no opposition from those we support or ourselves.
