Why King George and Ann Coulter can get away with saying anything.
In both cases, we can point directly at the so-called main stream media and blame them for the avalanche of bullshit under which we've been buried for the last six years.

Liberal pundits from Paul Krugman, to Bob Herbert, to E.J. Dionne, to Molly Ivins, to Katrina vanden Huevel, to Eric Alterman, and many others have pointed this out. Not to mention universally respected bloggers who have spent half this decade reporting on the spin, distortions and outright lies being peddled by these two transparent snake oil salespeople.

But you never get to see any of it on the front page of your newspaper. And you rarely see those mentioned above on the TV talking head shows unless they're surrounded by a herd of wholly owned whores and wingnuts indebted to their fearless leader in the White House.

So aside from a minority of those who publish honest opinions, the main stream media has surrendered their duty and their constitutional right to publish truth. And the reason that Bush and Coulter can spew out any piece of shit that enters their minds, and are not taken to task for it? It's because what we refer to as the main stream media has been consciously and criminally incompetent in carrying out what we always considered to be their purpose for existing. (And yeah, I know that most of these media outlets are owned by those who profit from Bush's policies.)

They allow these maniacal right wing politicians and pundits to tell any lie to the American public. They allow them to commit any crime, and they never demand accountability. That's who's to blame for today's GOP. It's like Lord of the Flies. There are no adults in charge. There is no civilization.
